  1. In one of my tanks I sometimes notice air bubbles coming up from the gravel. It’s not a steady stream of bubbles. Just a few here and there. Is it bacteria working in the gravel? Is it a problem? One time i noticed it right before a nitrate spike. BAT
  2. You can try some other environmental things like slowly increasing temp to 80F, IAL, and frozen foods. That seems to have really helped my betta get better.
  3. I agree with @Torrey i found that increasing temp and frozen food really helped my betta with fin issues. I also used salt - BUT i had him in a hospital tank with no plants. So that isn’t an option for you right now. If he gets worse and you have to put him in a hospital tank, i would not hesitate to start with salt therapy. He is a beauty! Good luck!
  4. My betta has been recovering from fin rot. For the past 10-12 days he has been doing well. In the last few days I have noticed crimping on his dorsal and ventral fins. Is this ok? See pics.
  5. @Guppysnail thank you! Can you just throw them down the drain in the water? How do I make sure there is enough food for nerite/mystery snails but not enough for bladder snails?
  6. Hi All, i have had an invasion of bladder snails (that’s what the group thinks). I have 2 mystery snails and 1 nerite in the tank already. What is this I found on the wall of the aquarium? Are these snails? If so, what kind? Thanks Beth
  7. I have to say that using salt with kanaplex really helped me the second round of treatment. I started at 1 tbsp per 3 gallon and slowly increased to 1 tbsp to 1 gallon. @Levi_Aquaticshelped me
  8. I agree that one issue could be your lighting. I tried to grow plants with the Aquion hood with little success. They i found this NICREW light on Amazon and the plants took off. You have to play with the intensity and hours because too much to find the right balance (and avoid an algae outbreak like I experienced). I have found it a great light. I have a 10g. 9. I bought the AC nano air pump a few months ago. It has been great. Quiet as a church mouse. However, in the past week or so i have noticed it makes a clicking noise when its running. I have another one I just bought that is quiet like this one used to be. has this ever happened to anyone? I checked the air tube connections and they are sound. i will try to upload a video with sound. https://www.aquariumcoop.com/collections/air-accessories/products/usb-nano-air-pump
  10. I had a lot of success when i used kanaplex with salt. See AqCoop dosing article. When I got to 1 Tbsp/gallon the healing really accelerated. Hope he gets better. I agree re taking the temp down a bit - at least to low 80s. I would take it down slowly.
  11. @BeetleLann I have had wins and losses with plants. what kind of plants? what kinds of lighting (type and schedule)? what kind of substrate? what kind of fertilizing?
  12. @meadeamthat is good to know! thank you! I have attached a pic of one of the snails - not sure if this helps with ID
  13. My fish had bad fin rot this past month and I ended up having good luck with antibiotics plus aquarium salt. Aquarium coop has a good article on it. When i got to 1 tbsp per gallon it really seemed to do the trick alongside the antibiotic.
  14. Did you quarantine the cherry shrimp before introducing them? Do you have pictures of the fins? My betta is just getting over a bad fin rot.
  15. It would seem that since they also have an exoskeleton (based on my reading) then it should do the same. What do others think? @Torrey
  16. I used to live in the NE (grew up in CT) and just moved to MD 3 years ago. Have also lived in NYC (Bronx), WA (Seattle), MI (Ann Arbor), IA (Iowa City)
  17. I also mix daphnia (dried or frozen) into my betta’s feeding schedule to keep his bowels moving. Daphnia helps with digestion.
  18. It’s weird bc no new plants introduced in months. I didn’t see a clutch of eggs. Is it possible that I missed it? Is it possible that the tap water has any salt to change the water (like if there is some salt in it) enough that the nerite can reproduce?
  19. Hi Nerm friends, A few months ago I added a Nerite and two mystery snails to my bettas 10g planted tank to help with the algae. The tank is sparkling! However last week I noticed a baby snail. And this week I just saw 4 more smaller babies! help! I am thinking I should move one of the Mystery snails to another tank. I have been looking online for how to get rid of the baby snails humanely. Thoughts? thanks beth
  20. Hi All, My betta is healed and I am working to transition him back to his original tank. I have 2 questions about the transition. I just did the second 30% change (no salt added) and will now wait for a week (per the AqCoop article). Do I have to do any more changes with no salt water? assuming parameters in new tank are stable and temp is same- anything special I need to do to get him used to the new water? Thanks! Beth

    Thank you Nerms!

Dear Nerms (esp @laritheloud@Levi_Aquatics@Irene), Thank you so much for all of your help and prayers! Cutie is doing much better and his fin rot is on the mend after the salt, kana-led, frozen foods and warmer water (see before and after below). I will now try decreasing the salt as directed by the AqCoop article. Thank you! Beth BEFORE AFTER
  23. Hi Friends, Thank you for all of your sage advice for Cutie's care! I have moved to almost 1 tbsp: 1 gallon ratio of salt, added frozen foods to his diet, and just finished a 3 dose course of kanaplex (first course mid December...see first post). He is a voracious eater and swims around the tank scouting things out and resting in his betta log and various huts/houses. He seems to be doing better - take a look at the new pics and tell me if you agree. Questions - There seems to be a small bit of erosion on the body at the base of his dorsal fin (see attached pics). Should I be concerned? Should I start an oral med? How long to continue the 1:1 salt in the aquarium? Gratefully, Beth
