  1. Added No Planarian to my five gallon to combat the planaria and hydra infestation in my planted tank. Hoping for the best🤞
  2. Got my 1.5 snail tank assembled and running. Bummed some pest snails from a big box store and it looks like a mix between pond and bladder snails. I'm sure my puffer will appreciate it. 🙂
  3. Figure I'll post an update on what I've decided. Ended up going with this aquarium from Walmart. A little bigger than a gallon so slightly more breathing room. The light on it is pretty weak and probably wouldn't support anything more demanding than anubias. I'm also keeping an eye on the filter and make sure no one is getting sucked in. Feeding algae wafers and frozen brine shrimp for now, and I'm doing an "in snail" cycle, so I will be monitoring the water closely.
  4. I want to start breeding bladder snails so my pea puffer has a consistent supply of snails. My current idea is to purchase a one gallon aquarium kit and throw in a small plant with gravel and root tabs and just let them breed and continue to feed things like algae pellets and blood worms to them. I'm curious to see if any of you have feeder snail tanks and how you equipped them.
  5. I've had both a Betta and Pea Puffer in my five gallon cube. My Betta was pretty active and would constantly patrol the tank. He did not like the nerite snail I bought at first and flared & tried to bite him a few times, but he eventually stopped doing it. I think he would have killed any shrimp I had in there, so I would recommend starting with a couple of ghost shrimp and seeing what happens. They're cheap and worse case scenario he gets a nice snack. 😋 My pea puffer is pretty shy and he likes to hide in the vegetation in the tank, only occasionally coming out. He hasn't attacked either of the nerite snails where they're so much bigger than him but he wiped out the pest snails in my tank really quick. I think he also would kill shrimp as well, especially where he moves faster then my Betta did. I would consider them a bit more demanding to take care of than a Betta so keep the food requirements in mind. I loved both of mine so regardless of which one you choose you should be pretty happy. 🙂 There does seem to be some controversy about only having one pea puffer by itself (which in a five gallon is all you should have), so do your research on that and decide what's best.
  6. He swims through it but my puffer tends to hang out in the lower parts of the tank where there's a lot of vegetation. I originally had a betta in here and he hung out in it all the time, but unfortunately he passed.
  7. That's a great idea. I use a syringe to feed my puffer frozen food (he won't eat from tweezers) and he does not end up eating it all, and the nerites usually can't access every part.
  8. I have a five gallon pea puffer tank with two nerite snails that's decently planted. I ordered some floating plants off the internet and gave them a thorough salt bath but I suppose it was not enough given the infestation of hydra and planaria in my aquarium. I don't want to nuke the aquarium and start over because I really like the plants that have grown in it. So for now, my current idea is to use No Planaria in the aquarium with my two nerite snails removed in a bowl and just leaving my pea puffer in the aquarium for the duration of the treatment. Is this the best idea, and do you all have any other suggestions? Thank you! P.S. what are the chances of hydra and planaria hitch hiking back into my aquarium on my nerite snails, and how can I prevent this?
  9. I couldn't think of a decent profile name so I just did a word play of pea puffer. Please enjoy this slightly cursed image I made to go along with it. 😆
  10. Hello everyone. I started getting into this hobby last spring. It's been a lot of fun learning all of the different aspects of keeping and maintaining an aquarium. And while I'm still fairly casual about it for now, in the future I do plan on getting more into the hobby in the future with multiple aquariums. I have my five gallon pea puffer tank pictured here. Looking forward to continue to expand my knowledge on the hobby 😀
