  1. Hi @Elia, I wonder- did you do anything different than what you usually do for a water change? Did you do a bigger water change than usual? You know how sometimes you put a new healthy looking plant into a tank and it melts back and then once it gets used to its new environment it (hopefully) comes back? It could be something like this. Assuming your friend didn't do anything weird to make your plant(s) go sideways. I would do things as you would normally do them and adjust only if you have to. The stem looks healthy so I'd give it a chance without overdoing it.
  2. Thanks @Colu. I also see a Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia disease that guppies get in their blood. A guppy website suggests Maracyn2 or Furan2. So I'm kind of glad I started with Furan2 if either are the case. I will continue to treat and observe. (to be clear I understand Endlers and Guppies are not the same thing but so similar that I thought Guppy keepers could advise best)
  3. @Colu says it treats gram pos and neg bacterial infections- and still not entirely sure what the poor thing has- so I thought it was a good place to start. An internet search suggests the red could be another sign of columnaris which the box says Furan2 treats. Think I should switch to Kanaplex tomorrow?
  4. Hi Jennifer, sorry your CPD is sick. If you think a fish is sick it is always a good idea to isolate and observe until you know how to further treat. Aquarium salt might be a good place to start. Here is a helpful ACO link to using salt: https://www.aquariumcoop.com/blogs/aquarium/aquarium-salt-for-sick-fish?_pos=1&_sid=95c3fafce&_ss=r
  5. @FlyingFishKeeper on that note I used a command strip "jewelry hanger" as a knob/handle for my Aquatop aquarium which without is an uber pain to get the lid off (though it looked nice). I don't rely on it holding the lid entirely but it helps me get the lid off easier.
  6. My boy, Pegasus, is such a peacock. He'd been attached to my now solo female (technically his offspring) for several hours and strutted off with his antenae as wide as they could get.... little brat....sometimes I wonder if I should put one of them in another tank. I feel like he harasses them too much.
  7. OTOCINCLUS VITTATUS: The Accidental Oto Tank Water testing day: Every Thursday I test all 5 of my established tanks. I really enjoy it. I like to see my hard work is continuing to pay off. It's been helpful several times too. While scanning tank walls I've spotted two 3-5 day old babies. One of which I caught. That makes 6 in the breeder. I ended up putting them in with the others in the large floating breeder since they aren't transclucent and have a little size on them. I'll try and catch the other one tomorrow if I see them. Recent Water Parameters: Temp 78.9 (no heater) pH 7.6 (up from .2) Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 40 (still) kh: 3/53.7 gh 179 (up from last week)
  8. It definitely looks a lot like that to me- looks exactly like my spiderwood decay. I had to take that sucker out and scrub the c*** out of which helped a little, but you know it's natural material it will keep doing that eventually. I'm sure there is probably some algae but you might have a lot of debris from wood and leaves for sure.
  9. If you don't want it to go too far why not just scrape the glass with a razor and follow behind with a siphon if possible? I'm sure you probably have to leave the shells alone but they might look cool.
  10. @lefty o isn't it odd? I just hope it wasn't directed to him at the time...you know how that era treated its soldiers....
  11. He's just lulling you into a false sense of security....
  12. That could also be true. Sounds like it's just best for you to start over just precautionary.
  13. @Colu well, I thought it might be. My Maracyn was expired (forgot to set a reminder on it) but I had Furan2 (I also have Kanaplex). I was forced to make a decision before I left for work. I started a round of Furan2. Any reason to believe that won't be just as effective?
  14. After over 3 weeks in QT with no illnesses/treatment I released 3 male endlers into my Fluval Flex on the 1st of this month. All doing well until I noticed this little one's mouth is red- active but not as active as they were before. What's the deal? My first thought is it might be bacterial? The other two Endlers acting the same as the day I put them in here. This one in the last few days was less of a participant in the group activites and hung out at the top of the water more often than I liked but was still moving about with the other fish. This is the first day I noticed the redness. Tank was tested just today: Temp 78.9, pH 7.6, Nitrate/rite 0 Alkalinity 5/89.5 GH 179
  15. @lefty o apparently it was my Uncle's pride and joy. 😄 Well, besides the cars he had waiting at home for him. He was quite the little 007
  16. Every Veteran's Day (and all the other holidays) I remember my uncle "Ricky" (man on the right in first pic and someone I never got a chance to know) who was point main Seal Team One in Vietnam. Despite numerous patrols with his team died in a freak helicoptor accident during R&R time. Per his CO he was an amazing teammate. RIP Ricky.
  17. A couple things. You have wood in there? I had a piece of spiderwood in one of my tanks that dropped a whole lot of debris that looked just like it (and it was covered in it) Also in my Oto tank I have a lot of hair algae covered by similar debris which I think is the scattered food from algae wafers. It looks like this but it's on plants/other surfaces. The hair algae stuff is harder since it's kinda stubborn but I can turkey baste quite a bit of it out. If I ruffle the plants enough I can knock a lot of it off but then it just settls on the bottom I don't know which is worse (plus there are likely eggs on the undersides of the leaves right now so I'm not doing that). I mention the above because you have fry. Sometimes we feed more.
  18. One of my recently acquired male endlers seems "less than perfect " and slightly bent but I think he's gorgeous.
  19. Looks like a Star Wars character!
  20. @PineSong Ah good. Your Oto is probably fine, I'm just over-cautious with Otos. 🙃 ..but do post when you get a chance. Colors: I do hope it's a color variant, that would be neat!
  21. If it's a green light good luck! @Guppysnail is right they're uber cute. I got only 1 baby by accident and it was fun to watch her grow up. They grow up so fast. 😭
