Question on Swordtail Highfin
Shenandoah Aquatics replied to Shenandoah Aquatics's topic in Fish Breeding
You can see that some of the fry have short fins and some have long fin. They are around 3 months old now. The fry with long fin is very noticeable. -
I am breeding Cauliflower Swordtails and some of the offspring are short fin. Will they carry the long-fin gene and potentially carry it on in future breeding?

I am just now spawning Black GBR and I am wondering if I can use the egg tumbler for the eggs, I had a lot fungus up on the first spawn using a Specimen container and some methylene blue.

Cracked Tank While Drilling...
Shenandoah Aquatics replied to Shenandoah Aquatics's topic in General Discussion
I'm just disappointed that it cracked. I drilled 3 and then this one happened, so I stopped. I have 18 to do in total and now I am gun shy.- 14 replies

I'm going to start an outdoor pond with a 100 gallon stock tank. How many Long Fin White Cloud's would you recommend starting with so that they breed like crazy?

Is there anyway to breed these guys without having to pull a spawn mop out? I really want to see if it is possible to colony breed these. Any ideas or suggestions?

Anyone know where I could find information about the fry separator/floating paint strainer that Cory uses in his fishroom? Thanks!

So Many Cacatuoides Males!
Shenandoah Aquatics replied to Shenandoah Aquatics's topic in General Discussion
Yeah I have tried both higher and lower temperatures with the same results. -
The sap would make this not a good idea.

So, I am consistently getting 70% males on my Triple Red Spawns. Anyone know what I can do to love a few. My LFS only wanted to pay $3 a piece for them. I can sell them slowly online but it takes some time.

Whos ready for outdoor tubbing season?!?!?!?
Shenandoah Aquatics replied to FrozenFins's topic in General Discussion
What are some of the best colony breeders for outdoor tubs? -
So, I just got 7 of these guys but for the life of me I am having a hard time sexing them out. Well, let’s say I have an easy time determining females but not so much males. I would appreciate any help! I could only get six. My question are any of these males?

So, I purchased a group of 6 Bristlenose and after growing them out for months, all are male. 😞 Anyone know where I could find an adult female?

Problems Shipping Live Fish
Shenandoah Aquatics replied to Shenandoah Aquatics's topic in General Discussion
I spoke with the manufacturer and said that they could be double bagged but it would reduce oxygen by 50% and would have to monitor each fish to see if it would affect them. -

Problems Shipping Live Fish
Shenandoah Aquatics replied to Shenandoah Aquatics's topic in General Discussion
Great thank you, that is very helpful. All that I have are the pictures that my customers have sent me, so I’m going to ask and see if that is what is going on. I also have a new run of breather bags that I’m going to try out. -
I have just begun selling fish online and shipping them this past year. But recently I have had a string of problems. I ship with breather bags and in the last two weeks I have had around 10 shipments to not make it fully alive. In those, the breather bag has exploded but the rubber band is fully in tact. I can’t figure out if it’s too cold or what is going on. Many times one bag will be fine and the other will not make it. I’ve shipped many different ways: styrofoam cut outs, insulated coolers, and even insulation in the entire box but it doesn’t seem to change the outcome. I started shipping in October and have had around 50 orders fulfilled with only two not making it. But in the last two weeks I have had around 10 to not make it. I have stopped shipping until I can figure out the issue. I’m thinking it is the cold but maybe someone else could chime in and help me out. Maybe air pressure? Thank you in advance!
