  1. So I went a little overboard with the driftwood collecting, got more pieces, large and small. I’ll keep everyone posted on how it’s doing. Am planning on soaking for a few weeks.
  2. Thanks! Congratulations to you too. All I did that was different was feed them live baby brine and they spawned within a couple days. My pH is neutral, I have a lot of cover in my tank. And my water is soft. I have to add crushed coral. They spawned a couple days after a water change. Have fun!!
  3. I’m such a nerd! I gasped when I saw it, and then carried it home immediately 😂
  4. Will do! I got some smaller pieces to play around with in my other tanks too!!
  5. I got six Corydora Venezuelanus from a fellow hobbyist, and I got them to spawn! Have been breeding Habrosus for a while, but the Venezuelan spawn was huge! Have a grow out tank, and can’t wait to share!!!
  6. Yes, from Puget Sound. I’m planning on setting up a big tank in a few months, so I cannot wait to use it!
  7. Hi all! Have a question. Was out at the beach (salt water) and found this AMAZING piece of driftwood. I’m a freshest tank gal, but was hoping I could use this piece sometime. Can I soak it? Months? What are your thoughts!
  8. The.Best.Ever. Period. 😀. I learn so much everyday. Thank You!
  9. Hi friend! My thought is that the tank is still cycling and that’s why you have all these problems. If I were you, I’d keep doing the water changes, but order up some beneficial bacteria (fritzyme 7 is THE BEST) and dose the tank according to the instructions. After you add the bacteria, check parameters daily but add your treatment for fin rot too (ichx and Maracyn). If ammonia stays at 0 (because of the beneficial bacteria) and nitrates stay 0 (also because of the beneficial bacteria you added) then you don’t need to do another water change, and you can let the betta marinate in your fin rot treatment. But be sure to check parameters daily, and hold off on feeding until treatment is over. Check out girl talks fish for her betta fin rot video for more info. If you see ammonia increase and nitrates increase on your daily checks, you should do a water change and redoes the meds (if you are using maracyn and ichx) to keep them at the right concentration. I think you are stuck “between a rock and a hard place” so to speak.
  10. Thank you! Is the aquarium salt safe for snails?
  11. Hi fellow hobbyists, I’d love some advice about my betta. But first the numbers: temp:78, nitrites 0, nitrates 0-20, pH 7, ammonia 0, moderate kh, gh. He has developed some ratty fins. I’ve been changing the water daily, and added ichx, and Maracyn. He’s in a ten gallon tank (with snails). I moved him into the ten gallon from a five thinking it would be better. despite this, fins are looking worse. Still eating, but not as happy as before. I’m so bummed! any ideas? Pic is from today. thank you all!
  12. I’d reach out to them. The times are crazy after all.
  13. I have no idea! Do you have a local aquarium group that you could ask??
  14. OK aquatic botanists... I’m puzzled. If you break up your lighting during the day (4 h AM, 4h PM) can you prevent algae growth? I’m playing with the total light, nutrients, balance. Really fun actually, but now I’d like to consider light splitting. does it make a difference? Debate! thx, emily
  15. Thank You! I will look into it!! found the book ($), but I also found this article by the same author. https://www.planetcatfish.com/shanesworld/shanesworld.php?article_id=312
  16. Hi fish friends! I bought these fabulous Orange fin Venezuelan corys from another local hobbyist and I really want to breed them. I’m not finding any tips specifically for these lovelies. Does the collective intelligence of C.A.R.E have anything to share??
