  1. is this black diamond blasting sand safe for African cichlid tank?http://media.tractorsupply.com/is/image/TractorSupplyCompany/3905403_A1
  2. I second that on the spider wood. I had smaller pieces they didnt release a lot of tannins.
  3. are these crypts planted too close together or are they okay?
  4. yeah i wish i would of realized before i spent the money lol
  5. I have them in a 35 gallon tub they wont fit in buckets. Does mangrove root release a lot of tannins like mopani?
  6. i got this driftwood for my 125g planted rainbowfish tank. 2 pieces are mopani and the other branchy one is mangrove root. My questions are is mangrove root safe to put in aquariums? Also how long would it take to get most of the tannins out of the pieces of mopani. The one on far left is over 20 inches tall and the middle one is a pretty thick piece of mopani. I can not boil them they are too big and heavy. I'm concerned about the tannins lowering my ph. My ph is 8.0-8.2 gh 12 kh 10. I know people use driftwood for softwater fish but every rainbow tank i see has driftwood in it. Thanks for any help
  7. Im gonna be adding some driftwood so im gonna be rescaping. Thanks for the help
  8. I recieved some vallisneria and pogostemon stellatus octopus. can i leave them in the pots for a few days before i plant? i'm soaking some driftwood and want to wait to plant the plants til i get the driftwood in the tank. thanks for any feedback
  9. can you overdose root tabs? if i put 1 tab every 6 inches in a grid pattern in my 125 gallon that would be 36 tabs. Is that too much? I have mostly root feeders. thanks for any help!
  10. if i raised my lights by 3 or 4 inches would that help illuminate the tank more or would i just be losing par? with my lights laying on my tops its about 18 inches from my substrate cause the tank is 21 inches tall and 3 inches of substrate. I wish i didnt have the shaded areas in my tank where its really dark.
  11. yeah i had a bunch of vallisneria die off cause i was treating for ich and doing water changes everyday but wasnt dosing ferts consistently enough i guess and they died off. but i just got 8 more pots of val and a octopus plant. today i ordered 12 pot of crypt wendtii green so that'll help fill out the front half when i get them
  12. yeah my camera is not the best doesnt really do them justice. and i also dont have a ton of plants cause its hard to fill up a 6ft tank. and i have other aquariums that i spend money on lol
  13. yeah i'll just do 50% for a while then go up slowly if i'm not getting algae. if i bought 2 more 3ft fluval 3.0s would that be too much light even at 50% for low to medium light. I see that aquarium co op recommends 4 3ft fluval 3.0 for a 125 gallon
  14. this is with lights at 50%. it does look a little brighter on camera than in person to me but maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me lol
  15. yeah when i turn it down to 50% the tank looks pretty dark and dim to my eyes
  16. Heres another pic with the lights at 100%. Is this too bright for low to medium light?
  17. this is my setup my lights cover the full length of the tank just not the width the top front and back of tank are dark. this is with the light intensity at 100% is that way too much?
  18. I have a 125 gallon with a 4 foot fluval 3.0 and a 3 foot fluval 3.0. It is moderately planted with low to medium light plants. My question is how intense should i start off with these lights. I dont want to go way over board but not too little where the medium light plants wont make it. Because the tank is so wide my two lights dont like the whole tank front to back completely. The top corners are shaded will plants that grow into the shade die from no light. I have crypts, vallisneria, red melon sword, pogostemon stellatus octopus, anubias and java fern. thanks for any help
  19. I agree I don't typically over filtrate a tank but everything I read said African cichlids are very messy. I bought the 2 filters cause I was gonna get bigger mbuna that get 5 to 7 inches. These that I ended up getting will max out at 3 1/2 inches. My concern is the flow I don't want them to constantly be on the treadmill and never leave their caves. I think I'll start with one then if I ever feel like I need more I can add the second one on. Also if I put the filter on the side of the tank it dissipates the flow and spreads it evenly instead of just being on one side of the tank. Only con is it doesn't look pretty but I'm the only one who ever sees my tanks anyway.
  20. It visually looks like a good bit of flow. I dont want to tire the little fish out. I'll scape it and see how it is then.
  21. By the way i have the aqua clears flow turned all the way down
  22. I have 2 aqua clear 110s on my 75g and im gonna stock the tank with 10 juvenile saulosi. I know i have enough filtration but i think its gonna be way too much flow. Should i just use 1 filter to slow the flow down?
