  1. In my limited experience with swordtails, they should not bother your rice fish. I could be proven wrong, but I’d say you should be fine. I would also say based on filtration and live plants 5 should not overwhelm your tank either.
  2. How many were purchased? What type of filtration do you have in place? Live plants?
  3. I used Seachem in my daughter’s 5.5 gallon tank. 1st time I’ve used it and now I want to replace the gravel in my 75g with it😁. The plants just seem to do soooooo much better with sand vs. gravel.
  4. Here is my 75g low tech, low light. 😁
  5. I don’t have a reasoning for it, it’s just been what I’ve experienced. I’m actually going to pick up a few new plants tomorrow, so I’ll give a shot a 4th time.😁
  6. I have yet to get a bulb plant to grow in gravel substrate. However, 3 times now I’ve take the bulb from my tank when it was not growing and put it into my daughter’s tank that has a sand bottom and within no time that bulb has taken off and has done amazing.🤷🏼‍♂️
  7. You are correct that you now have to play the waiting game. Unfortunately, way to many start off the same way you did. Your tank has to Cycle to be ready for fish. I’m guessing this is part of the reason you lost 5 fish. Getting the fertilizer will potentially help the plants, but will not help with the fish. Some additional info could be helpful. What fish did you lose? What type of heater do you have and what is the temperature of the tank? What type of filter did you get? For your plants what light? As you’ll learn we are hear to help on this forum and folks much smarter and more experienced than I will certainly chime in here.
  8. Agreed 100% with Manringjk. RMS has been my go to, but they have been struggling with stocking issues for sure. Something Fishy is fantastic and definitely specialize in Cichlids. I’ve never been to Agnoquatics, but I’ve heard good things.
  9. Hi again. Something that has been sticking with me, but I’m not even sure what to think of it. The bottom picture I originally attached shows the whole aquarium. Java ferns aside, all the other plants, especially the Swords and Crypts are doing better than they ever have. so maybe in doing something right. I guess the question could be: Can dosing Potassium for the ferns negatively impact other types of plants?
  10. I’ve adjusted my blue levels in the light and did a massive cleaning today. I also ordered some potassium and will start trying to attack the areas that seem to be potential areas of concern for BBA.
  11. I am just mentioning root tabs to cover all fertilizers that I am using in the tank. Yes, the Ferns are the only plant I’m having issues with as all others appear to be happy and healthy. Yes, definitely a ton of great info here. I truly appreciate it. I’ll respond back with additional questions that may come up.
  12. Here is my light schedule. I do not think it’s a lighting issue. I have this setting for 2+yrs now. I at 1 point did dose extra potassium. I didn’t notice a huge difference, and have not dosed it for 6 months or so.
  13. Other than the one in the 3rd picture down no they are not. Over time the 3rd one down does look like it’s gotten buried. I was going to attach my light schedule and settings, but I’m not home and will need to do that later.
  14. This is a 75g aquarium. I use Flourish, Trace and occasionally Nitrogen. I dose per the instructions to adding a little more. I also use Easy Green root tabs per the instructions. Typically 30% water changes ever week to every other week. Nothing has changed in the tank. Light setting have remained the same. They have been thriving but now all look the same. I could have sworn there was a older post laying out what the causes could be, but I cannot find it. Thoughts and help appreciated.😃
  15. I typically go to RMS Aquaculture, but I also do like Something Fishy as well as Aquatica Aquarium Gallery. just wish there was something over here on the East Side. (Mentor)
  16. I’ve used a mag float for probably 10+ years at this point. It works very well for all types of algae I’ve encountered. There are times it doesn’t get into the corners as much as I would like it too, but that’s about all I don’t like about it.
  17. I use the same Fluval one as mentioned above. I have had it running for almost 3yrs now at 12hrs a day. Works great no complaints at all. When the bulb burns out I’ll certainly purchase another one.
  18. Welcome. You are certainly jumping right in!
  19. I’ve tried various live and frozen foods. Mine definitely prefer frozen bloodworms.
