  1. Thanks for the feedback. I guess that means I'll feed frozen bloodworms, which it gobbled up today, and get snails periodically.
  2. Well, I've had my new pea puffer for a week (3 year established tank) alone in a 6 gallon tank and I got a dozen snails the same day I purchased him. The puffer ate all the snails in 2 days and since then he will only eat frozen bloodworms. The puffer ate a few frozen brine shrimp one time and that was it. Back to only frozen bloodworms. I will get more snails, but not every 2 days and I don't have any other tanks to breed them in. I know puffers like live foods. I'm not an expert but Ive read about pea puffers and their needs. So I'm not asking for information on the species and what they eat. I'm just asking, if I try to force a few foods, like frozen brine shrimp and nothing else for a few days, will the puffer take to the brine shrimp and eat them? Surely it won't starve itself? I guess I'm asking if the puffer can be trained to eat a few different frozen foods over time?
  3. My Betta has been handicapped and unable to swim for 18 days, but still eats pellets and frozen brine shrimp put right in front of him with an eye dropper, is it time to euthanize him? See the attached pictures. The Betta is a year old and has swim bladder disorder and/or likely an internal injury. I put him in a breeder box and he literally cannot move other than flop on the bottom of the breeder box. He cannot swim at all or reach the surface of the water (about 3 inches high). I've tried going 3 days without feeding him and he did not improve at all. He is not showing any pineconing or bloating. He is still eating but only surviving because I feed brine shrimp or soak Omega One pellets and literally put them right in front of his mouth with an eye dropper as he is stuck on the bottom. He cannot swim to get food. There is no sign of infection, parasites, or disease. PH 7.6 (steady), Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, Nitrates kept at or below 20, tank fully cycled for a year and is heated at 78 degrees. Again it's been 18 days now. I don't know what else to do or if it is time to euthanize? Please advise.
  4. Update......my betta is doing a lot better! I know the pics aren't the greatest but progress can be seen. After 4 days of E.M. Erythromycin treatment and waiting another 3 days (1 week total) I didn't see much change. The fin rot might have even continued to progress a little. I decided to try aquarium salt and I was worried and skeptical but felt I had to do something. I did a 50% water change and vacuum and I started with 1 teaspoon per gallon, then after 4 days another 50% water change and vacuum and upped to a total of 1.5 teaspoons per gallon. 4 days later another 50% water change and vacuum while keeping at 1.5 teaspoon of salt per gallon and this is where we are today. Looks a lot better. This Sunday I'll probably do another water change without adding any salt (thereby decreasing salt) as I start to level down the salt.
  5. Attached is a picture of the tank and plants. Do you think these (seemingly) soft jelly like fake plants could be causing the fin tears?
  6. Thanks for the response. Because it's a Betta, I only have 2 small artificial jelly like glow plants (almost look like jelly fish) in the tank because they are very soft and not jagged. The filter is quite slow, no current that she has to fight and it doesn't disturb the surface except right were the water comes out. She's in the tank alone and moving, swimming, eating and acting fine. I will say, 2 weeks ago I set up a new guppy aquarium next to the Betta tank. Could this have upset her? I haven't seen her flaring. I'm not trying to be difficult, I just don't know what else to do or what the problem could be. I appreciate your time and feedback.
  7. I've had my female Betta for 3 months and she has fin rot. The tank is cycled, 2.5 gallon, filtered and heated. Temp is a steady 77. PH 7.8 but stable, 0 Ammonia, 0 Nitrites, 20 Nitrates. I vacuum and do weekly water changes. Feed twice daily, for a daily total of 1-2 pellets and a couple small pinches of bug bites, and once a week I usually give bloodworms and I fast one day a week. 2 days ago I completed a 4 day treatment of (API) E.M. Erythromycin following the directions on the box. What should I do? Please see all 4 photos. Thanks for your help.
