  1. Hey guys, As I got away from the Idea of setting up an apisto breeding tank, I am considering to turn the new 10g tank into a heavily planted caridina shrimp tank. I've kept orange sakuras and bloody marys. But I have no experience with caridinas. My ph from tap reads 8.0 but I have RO water as well as active substrate, cycled HOB, equilibrium etc. Basically everything needed. So basically I wanna try some caridinas for the first time in the new 10g tank. But I can't be sure what to keep. I've talked to the breeder guy I get my shrimp from, and he said, Yellow King Kongs can get groups of deaths out of nowhere from time to time even under perfect conditions and parameters and without any valid reasons, and raising their babies can be a bit more challenging. So he adviced not to start with yellow king kongs as it be a bit disencouraging experience for some people. He said taiwan bees and tigers can be a better start considering I don't have any experience with caridinas. Has anyone have experience with caridinas? What would you suggest? Are yellow king kongs that hard to keep? Also I use equilibrium in all of my tanks. Would it be enough as a gh booster or do I really need to buy Shrimp gh+ products for caridinas? The caridinas I like the most by now are; Ghost White Bee caridinas: Blue bolts: Crystal reds: Bee pandas: Yellow King Kongs: Any suggestions are welcomed. 🙂
  2. I am excited as well! Hope your lil buddies do well.
  3. This might be a lil different than some other fishkeepers perspective: I personally see no reason to quarantine the fish I get as the first additions, like to what fish they will spread the diseases to anyway. Stress is one of the worst things for fish, So until they end up in your tank, they go through lots of tanks and shipment already. Then introducing them into a quarantine tank after shipment, stressful enough. Then medicating fish, again stressful enough. Then once they start settling, moving fish again to another tank, more stress. I just don't like it. I medicate fish only if I observe any potential problems. I don't drink medicine until I'm sick. I don't drink all the pills I find at home to treat a potential sickness or to treat one symptom I have. I act with this mentality. I closely observe my fish everyday, check if they act weird, if they eat well. If I really wanna medicate, then I wait until I complete my full stock in a tank, medicate them all together after they all settle. And I medicate specifically for the condition I observe.
  4. Interesting. I've had bladder snails in my 29g too, before they are outcompeted by MTS. They were pretty small as well. I also have similar water parameters to you with high ph.
  5. Maybe this pic of my sterbais helps. Male is clearly different than females
  6. They are adorable. Hard to say for now exactly but I am leaning towards 2 m and 2 f. Just a guess
  7. The answer is sadly no. Rabbit snails need high temps. Mystery snails face issues like fast growth, weak shell development, short life span when they are kept in rabbit snail temperatures. As much as I love snails, I keep my mysteries and rabbits in different tanks. Rabbits enjoying the gbr temps (80F), meanwhile mystery lives in a cooler tank. The most ideal mystery snail temp for a balanced activity, shell development and lifespan is ~74F Also I have seen many cases where male mystery snail try to mate with rabbit snail causing stress and ends up causing injury to both sides, by having its organ stuck in rabbit snails trapdoor. Also, as you know rabbits are waaay too slow compared to mysteries. And they eat much slower too. So that is like keeping crazy active eating fish like danios and slow shy eaters in the same tank When I drop a snello in mystery snail tank it is finished in an hour or so. It takes a day for rabbits to eat lol
  8. Can you share pic of the 4 together sometime? Males are considerably smaller in size in my experience, especially next to females. And females have more round bellies/bodies
  9. You really don't need active substrate for neocaridinas. It is more of a caridina thingy. I'm excited for both of us! In case you have any question please don't hesitate to contact me. I've kept bloodymarys and orange sakuras. So I may try to help if I know the answer cheers,
  10. They seem like adults or soon to reach sexual maturity, If I were you, I would try to breed them instead of buying new ones. Do you have males?
  11. I bet I won't wait 2 months 😄 I will be using tropica aquasoil. So lots of water changes in the first month. It leeches a lot at the beginning and I usually use root feeder plants so not planning to dose ferts at the beginning. Maybe one pump of trace elements (tropica premium nutrition) but thats it. I always start with 6 hour lights in my tanks. And increase it to 7 hours after plants settle and perform a pretty good growth, which is about 2 months or so in general. I personally don't like going above 7 hours in any of my tanks. Snails are good for shrimp. The slime they leave behind as well as their poop is actually nice. But be careful, shrimp are slow eaters, so you may face population issues if you are planning to keep "pest" snails. Many snails can enjoy living in neocaridina parameters, only temp can be a bit of an issue but you may find a way. Except a few like rabbits. When your tank is cycled, you can introduce snails anytime I believe. They may help consuming decaying plant matter and algae meanwhile helping cycle to keep up. I would wait for nerites tho, if that's your plan. They are naturally grazers, so they really need algae to build up so they can find food in the tank and don't starve to death. I usually wait for some time to introduce nerites to my setups. The white ghost bees stole my heart, but I haven't fully decided yet. What's your plan? Red cherries? 🙂
  12. I would let them color up with some good care. They remind me of orange ven. too
  13. I vote for GBR, but @Chick-In-Of-TheSea’s Snoopy does not help me making this decision. She is adorable. I feel like German blue rams sensitivity perception is a bit an overreacted topic. I don’t know. I have been reading people saying they are sensitive nonstop and it can easily discourage people from giving them a chance. It did for me back in the days and giving them a chance prove me the opposite. They seem just like an okay fish for an average hobbyist who is willing to provide 80F temps. I love the color varieties of GBR, but def not the baloons. P.S: I love you Snoopy
  14. Btw, they still are “chasy” no matter what in my experience. Just longer tank with lots of plants and wood and blocking sight helps a lot to keep the chases shorter. Because they setup a smaller sized territory this way and the one being chased can get out of sight and territory much faster! My rams dont care about anyone except rams and rarely angels as I said. Otherwise honey gourami rummy noses sterbais etc get i to their territory, eat their food and they just don’t care I have no clue about breeding action tho. Hoping to see that one day as well!
  15. Exciting! I’m planning to setup a new 10g shrimp tank too this week. Let’s wait together Hobby of patience yaay 😄
  16. Wait for 2 months if possible. the main reason for this is, shrimp constantly pick up on biofilm and algae grows literally on every surface of the tank. I managed to work with 1 month too. I added catappa leaf and alder cones 2 weeks before adding shrimp tho. I believe it helped a bit. especially babies, just grow up eating these biofilms. And u mostly end up buying juveniles from the store. btw, def buy juveniles and not adults if possible. Believe me you will have much higher chance of success
  17. You want something that enjoys their temperature. I keep them eith sterbai cories, rummy nose tetras, angelfish, I also had pleco, honey gourami and rabbit snails with them. They sometimes shoo angels from their territory especially black one but otherwise they are okay. rummy noses are good for high temperatures and they share similar parameters.
  18. They really do!! I have seen so many different MTS before but nothing like them. But holy cow their tank was full of babies lol. I am not introducing MTS to my new tanks intentionally. Even tho they are beautiful, it can be an eyesore after some time. Also in my personal experience, MTS makes no different on algae really. But they are indeed great at cleaning any extra food or dead fish/shrimp/snails. So they help with water quality in that regard. Other than that, idk...
  19. Maybe I better get both NLS and Dainichi. Both have pretty good ingredients in general. This is the NLS one: Whole Antarctic Krill Meal, Whole Herring Meal, Wheat Flour, Whole Squid Meal, Algae Meal, Soybean Isolate, Beta Carotene, Spirulina, Garlic, Vegetable and Fruit Extract (Spinach, Broccoli, Red Pepper, Zucchini, Tomato, Pea, Red and Green Cabbage, Apple, Apricot, Mango, Kiwi, Papaya, Peach, Pear), Vitamin A Acetate, D-Activated Animal-Sterol (D3), Vitamin B12 Supplement, Thiamine, DL Alphatocophero ( E ), Riboflavin Supplement, Folic Acid, Niacin, Biotin, Calcium Pantothenate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, L-Ascorby-2-Polyphosphate (Stable C), Ethylenediamine dihydroiodide, Cobalt Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Choline Chloride.
  20. Yup! Rabbits are in different tank, and there were soo many mts there. I have both rabbits and mts myself. def not rabbits
  21. I'm looking for a new daily morning food for my tanks. Currently, NLS Thera A+ is the daily morning food for everyone, and I support their diet with different foods and frozen/dried foods in the evenings. I know that it does not contain any medicine, but I am not sure about the additional garlic content and how suitable that is for daily feeding. I am not sure how common Dainichi foods are in US, and the majority of people are from US here, but has anyone have experience with Dainichi fish foods? I can't decide whether I should order NLS or try Dainichi this time. Or maybe something different? I am planning to get this one for my community tanks. I liked the particle size as rams spit out food a lot if it is big, so I always crush my NLS Thera A+ further for them to eat easier. Ingredient list: Krill meal, kelp, white fish meal, wheat flour, pea protein, spirulina algae, wheat germ, montmorillonite clay, brewer’s yeast, garlic, protease, gum acacia, beta glucan, vitamin and mineral mix*.*Vitamin and Mineral Mix: Vitamin A Acetate, D-Activated Animal-Sterol (D3), DL Alphatocopherol (E), L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (C), B12 Supplement, Choline Chloride, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (B6), Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (K), Inositol, Biotin, Cobalt Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Ferrous Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Ethylenediamine Dihydroiodide. Typical analysis: Crude protein min. 41%, Crude fat min. 5%, Crude fiber max. 4%, Moisture max. 9%, Ash max. 9%, Calcium min. 2% and Phosphorus min. 0.7%. Fish I have in my tanks: Angels GBR sterbai cories red lizard whiptails Honey gourami Sparkling gouramis rosy barbs pygmy cories otos L199 rummy nose tetras If you have any good quality food suggestions suitable for daily feeding, I would love to hear some additional opinions. As a disclaimer, we dont have bug bites, and xtreme foods here. Hikari has very limited options, and vibra bites have been out of stock for ages. Thanks in advance!
  22. Today, I've noticed that only in one tank at my lfs there is these malaysian trumpet snails, which actually had blue-ish shining foot, and their shells looked very interesting too! Looked like they have a color of rainbow Has anyone seen these guys before? They were pretty. @Guppysnail @Chick-In-Of-TheSea @Cinnebuns snail peeps unite and check this out! 😄
  23. Very pretty, If I wasn't living in the middle of the city and/or botanicals were not that pricey, I would love to try a blackwater setup too! For now, all I can do is putting 1-2 catappa leaves and 3-4 alder cones for the tannin benefits 😄
