  1. Using this now. I like it. I baffle it for shrimps because it blows the little ones around if you don’t. I just made a simple water bottle baffle. Normally I just use sponge filters for them but I had to run carbon after they were treated, and the hob was the most effective strategy. You may not need a baffle if your fish are ok with some current. The betta would not be. Galaxy glow studio on Etsy makes custom baffles. I have one for my other filter and it’s good quality. He also takes special requests if you’d like it to look a certain way. I did use pantyhose on the pfs. Also I would not recommend this for a tank less than 10gal.
  2. Would this be an RO experiment, since everyone has different water?
  3. I don’t like how narrow the feet of this stand are. I’d worry about a possibility of tipping.
  4. Ahem. Potatoes are a vegetable @JoeQ. Also I bet you’d like beef stew. Which has some vegetables like carrots and whatnot. But they are in the gravy so maybe you’d eat them without hating life.
  5. Spinach Broccoli iceberg lettuce (because I was making myself a salad) green bean I fed cucumber today. They usually get some of the vegetables that I’m buying for my own recipes.
  6. Hmm, I tore the banana leaves and they seem more interested in the torn edge.
  7. Mine ignore banana leaves @Shadow @Lennie I bought them dry from a shrimp supplies shop on Etsy. I soaked them for a week using the suggestion from Marks Shrimp Tanks, so they’d have some biofilm. The shrimp are not interested at all. I will try jackfruit leaves next!
  8. These 2 are sold as standalone ingredients on Crayfish Empire so people can mix them into other foods like snellos or whatnot.
  9. Agreed. When I see shrimplets I submerge a pinch of Repashy Soilent green and rub my fingers so it disperses into the water column. Or I will just dilute it with tank water and pour it in. Once a week I do bacter ae. The adults get the prepared Repashy cubes, and I add calcium carbonate to those. I’m sure some of that calcium remains in the tank and some gets consumed (by the adults), so shrimplets benefit. I also feed shrimp cuisine and (for fun) lollies. As well as blanched veggies. 😍 Touché, Tolstoy! A favorite flick. I like a fair # of Heston’s films. Omega Man is right up there with Soylent Green, imo.
  10. I don’t like that one of the first ingredients is fish meal. Shrimps aren’t really supposed to have too much animal protein. That can cause molting problems. This is like looking at furry-pet food labels; you want to avoid a lot of filler when choosing a quality food.
  11. Also you can use a regular check valve with a separate air flow adjuster. So, you will have 2 things attached to the airline tubing, one being the check valve and the other being the knob.
  12. That’s pretty cool. If you can’t find more look into gang valves; they serve as a check valve and are adjustable for flow.
  13. There are like 50 attached to my house. They just chill on the concrete block. The duck in front- like, how is that even comfortable?
  14. I tricked you. The last one is made out of legos, lol
  15. The fish were all panicking and breathing heavily. I put water back in, suuuuper careful about temp since I was replacing so much. The old tank water had drained outside in the grass and could not be used. Then I cut the tank lights off and abandoned the project for the time being so they could relax.
  16. Pumped 20% water out of a tank so I could add sand and turned the pump off. Went outside to rinse the sand for a rescape and came back in to the hob grinding dry. The tank gravity drained and the fish were all in 1” of water.
  17. I can't tell when it is perched; I'd have to catch it mid-flight to tell. suuuuuuper common in my area. I think it may have made a nest up in my tree because we feed squirrels in the backyard. 🙄 It had one in its talon the one day and 7 or 8 of our crows went ballistic, causing a huge scene, and the hawk let the squirrel go, and the crows ran the hawk off. Crows were cawing, hawk was screeching - you could hear them at least 2 blocks away; I could see them over the rooftops. The crows DO NOT like the hawk at all.
  18. My tetras eat the bacter AE when it goes in. I dilute it with tank water first, but when it goes in they can see it and gulp at it. Yes, you have to way way underdose. The package is WRONG for dosing. You'll end up with fouled water and an outbreak of detritus worms, etc if you go by the package.
  19. That was my experience. Everyone likes soilent green, only the betta likes community plus. Tetras usually eat everything but they spat out community plus.
  20. The hawk is primarily brown/tan and when it flies there are very noticeable white stripes on its tail. (FL region.) It landed on a branch near me this weekend and seems unafraid.
