Sandra the fish rookie
@Frank Yes, the mini sump is below the tank in the drawer. I am trying to figure out how to reduce that noise from the overflow/filter inlet..
Ram man
It looks like some type of biofilm to me. Like sometimes when you put a piece of driftwood in a tank it just get coated in it, thats what might have happened to your tank.

I am trying to figure out how to reduce that noise from the overflow/filter inlet.. The people who use sumps have ways to quiet that noise. Maybe an inlet sponge would work? If you're going to keep shrimp, or fry, you might need one anyway. Edited March 4, 2021 by Frank
DSH OUTDOORS
@Sandra the fish rookie It could be hard water scale. I always have a build up on my heater when I start a new tank. There will also be a bit every time a do a big water change. I will be installing an RO system tonight (in the laundry room on a bypass so i can get it on demand) so I can expand my species list, but my guppies sure love my tap water.
