plants for discus tank

This question is more along the lines is what plants do well in warmer waters. I plan to setup the tank up with wc discus and wc gbr and will likely run it around 84 but need to double check if that is warm enough for wc discus.

I mostly prefer crypts/anubia and echinodorus but not sure off hand if any of the individual species have problems with warmer waters. Oh and also aponogeton; though in that genus i only care about 3 species and can look them up.

Aquarium adventures, Graeme, has a really awesome planted tank for his discus. (YouTube)

But does he name the species that work and don't work ?

He has a few videos, I think it's the typical plants you normally see.  He does discus what does and doesn't work and has a pretty easygoing stream on Friday US time where you can ask any questions directly.  As far as a one stop shop / robust list.... no I don't think you're going to see something like that.  Discus care alone is a pretty vast topic with a lot of opinions.  I think his tank looks pretty good and I know he's had it for a long time, running successfully.

I've had poor luck with much of anything at 85 degrees.  Anubias seem to do best.  Pothos rooted in the water seem to do OK.  I struggle with quite a few plants even at normal temps and I think that might have a lot to do with how hard my water is.  I know other discus folks that have plenty of luck, so it's probably something I'm screwing up! 😄

Discus can be a challenge for plants but temp doesn’t seem to be a deal breaker in my limited experience. Lots of other things that go with discus like extra soft water and low flow can be a problem.  Easy green has been great as always.

I know my GBR tank at 82 is a little lower in temp than a discus tank would be.

This crypt bottom left goes crazy. This is an older video. I’ll get better photos when the lights come on. Maybe someone can give you an id.  I got it at a club auction just labeled crypt. Also Naja guadalupensus guppy grass loves the 82 degrees

This anubias is going great at 79-80 with the dorsigera. I’ll look at purchase records once my tablet charges for name.

Ok here are some

The anubias at 79-80 is barteri var. Butterfly seller listed as thriving up to 86 degrees.

These are all in the GBR tank at 82

These are thriving at 82 I’m sorry I never cared what the names were. I’m just not a plant girl though I have lots of them. Hopefully you can id them. Your thread has brought to my attention that I should keep track of what the names are.

Thesecwere in cooler tanks but not thriving. I moved them here not long ago and they are perking up growing new leaves finally B643B750-4186-42EB-87AD-D7D5ED43A75C.jpeg.d101e08860212a954b1da0e46ba437ae.jpeg81A153C5-6221-4C76-9DFC-A13A271DC2B2.jpeg.8f875b0f2c5749d64cfe7676ccfc77f4.jpeg

This anubias failed miserably at 82. Bith were growing great for a few years in cooler tanks. Both have disintegrated at the higher temp 719D8E9D-690B-4E73-BA4A-D817D096C934.jpeg.98af343237f6be2e083f5f645ea4e9b8.jpeg

I have anubias nana petite, rosette swords, mini java fern and crypt wendtii in my tank thats running at 84-85F and they are doing well.

I have a planted 75 gallon discus tank, I keep it at 84*. the plants I have in there are jungle val, red rubin sword, and a couple other sword species, crypt wendtii (both green and bronze), java fern windelov, aubias bartei 'nana'. A few plants I have not been able to keep in the warmer waters of discus, but in my "normal" temp tanks pink flamingo crypt, crytp retrospiralis and usterina, anubias nana petite, and ludwigia
