xXInkedPhoenixX
@DaveO Intrepid Partner is a custom metal fabricator (cars). The fender you see is a 35 Ford he's doing work on- but it is a customer's car. Intrepid Partner cycles through his own vehicles and has owned just about everything. He's got 3 project cars currently (1 is built, 1 is in stages, the other is waiting in line!) He's making this Ford into a convertible (was a coupe), clearly he has cut the roof off already. This is the before pic: Edited January 27 by xXInkedPhoenixX 1

xXInkedPhoenixX
@lefty o the red primer? Yes I can't remember if that's his or a customer's car. So many projects! :-) He always gets them done though, magic really.

xXInkedPhoenixX
@DaveO yes, he's an impressive man. I have nothing but admiration for his skills. I don't deserve him. 🥰 But will keep him nonetheless! Edited January 27 by xXInkedPhoenixX Typos suck. 1
DaveO
I hope he can handle the tank stand build.🤣
xXInkedPhoenixX
@DaveO oh yes, he definitely can. He's also built the furniture in the living room. I've seen the sketches for his plan for this stand. So far it will include metal, wood and decorative glass.... 1

xXInkedPhoenixX
@lefty o yeah you know he and I have had several discussions about Model As, those were his first love and he's planning on building a show car with one- he laments that these cars are no longer popular in the hobby- those who are/were into them are an aging population and the younger car generations are adopting newer cars. If they are into older cars it's usually muscle cars (which neither he nor I are against).
xXInkedPhoenixX
He's also fast, bones up, not totally welded: 5

xXInkedPhoenixX
@DaveO Listen mister, aging does not necessarily mean old. 1

xXInkedPhoenixX
Intrepid Partner is working away on the aquarium stand. He's really done a deep dive on what it's going to look like, materials and potential issues. He finished the final welds on the base last week: Just have some finishing work to do to the welds so they're smooth. Eventually the plan is this is getting powder coated. We went and picked up more steel last week so he could start making the doors. After he spent copious amounts of time on fish forums specifically about stands and design issues with them he's decided that the metal framed doors will have air gaps as you see here to allow less condensation and more airflow: He's also decided to do hinge pins to have the potential to easily install and remove the doors as needed. Also, there will be 6 doors- 3 per long side for ease of access anywhere. One short end will be solid and the side facing the wall and likely be the inlet for cords/equipment, may be open or partially- that hasn't been fully decided. He got the hinge pins: And he's started on the frames today: Last week we also picked out glass. He's decided that the upper part of the door will have glass framed in about 12x18 with more metal. So we looked and ended up ordering this: The lower part will be an insert of stained wood. Steadily plugging along.... Odd Duck
That glass is gorgeous! I can’t wait to see it! The stand itself is going to be a work of art!
lefty o
holy cow, this thing is going to be killer. going to look great, and you cant get much more durable finish than powder coating.
xXInkedPhoenixX
I gotta give it to him, he's fast. Finished the frames for all the doors and the end cap which will be floating (no open/close). He's added another design element of an extra bar just below the 2 squares that are intended to frame the glass. He used some clamps to "hang" the doors so he could see how they all lined up- hard to photograph but he put a blanket behind so you can kinda get the gist: He has a cool idea we'll probably try for that center space. Stainless material for cars- which is not only decorative and matches both our interests- but will also provide air flow: Yep. I'm diggin this! 3 1
lefty o
so the tank will be the secondary focal point!
xXInkedPhoenixX
@lefty o ok maybe a little dueling banjo here however the whole thing WILL be the focal point of the room so hopefully what we do with the inside of the tank will match.
