It is close to the best of the "low-end DSLR" camera options on the market. Once you move to pure digital, the price jump is severe. This camera is well out of our price range, but very nice...
BradleyH20
@Fish Folk Not sure if you're aware, but there's a White-winged Tern being reported in Delaware. I saw it on my eBird ABA rare bird alerts email. This is a rare sighting in the States and would be a neat and possibly once in a lifetime opportunity for your son to photograph. Let me know if you need anymore info. Happy birding, Bradley Edited July 21, 2022 by BradleyH20
stowcenter93
Went to Alaska on our honeymoon in June. Took a pelagic charter to look for birds in the ocean waters south of Seward. Two of my favorite finds; Kittlitz's Murrelets and a Rhinoceros Auklet.

stowcenter93
Sharing a few more that weren't as great quality. A red faced cormorant pair moved into the Chiswell Islands a few years ago and began nesting. Was cool to see. A blurry photo of Leach's Storm Petrel, saw a few of these but couldn't get a good shot until one landed next to our boat for a few seconds. Lucky to document this cool tube And SO MANY PUFFINS (These are horned puffins, also saw tufted puffins.) 3

stowcenter93
Oh my goodness. I love that shot. You said he's shooting with a d500? Did he buy the body and lense at the same time? I'm using a D3200 and really want to upgrade for QOL features.

Fish Folk
Well! My son has just this week come level with the most species of birds ever recorded in a calendar year in our county in western MD. And there are a few months left to cruise on to make a new record. Hurricane Ian dumped a few species out of the sky that are not the usual suspects this time of year. Here are a few photos from this past week (before the storm). Black-throated Green Warbler, Eastern Phoebe, Magnolia Warbler, Pine Warbler, and Palm Warbler... 1

Awesome! We got one vagrant PaBu up our way just a county to the east last spring. InBu we see a lot, but they’re always beautiful. BlGr we’re striking out on… it’s been reported, but not common.

InBu Interesting. Of those 3, the BlGr are the most common and InBu are the most rare around here. I had a picture of a male PaBu I took from my dining room window. It wasn't a great pic but it was my pic! It's a delight to see them! I tried putting out white millet one season but I never saw one on the feeder. The feeder was attracting field mice so I never put it back up. Mice attract snakes. I met a guilded telemetry falcon guy a few years ago. He was roaming around in the field behind my house. It was really cool!

Closest thing to a bird I have is this little duck-hunter. Good thing: she’s scared of swimming😂 2

I think your unidentified bird is a yellow-rumped warbler. Not sure where you're located, but in New Jersey, that's one of the few warblers to hang around in the winter. Also, kind of looks like one to me.

I was amazed, too, when we moved here. My old home, 30 miles away as the crow flies, was surrounded by trees with mostly squirrels, blue jays, and house sparrows. I did see the occasional House Finch. There were Hummingbirds, but they're everywhere around here. I do miss the woodpeckers; Downies, Redheads.
