Various Vivaria
I have been seasoning my 3.5gallon for a little while now, and tonight I was stopped to look at it for a second. I'm pretty sure I saw Cyclops and planaria in the tank. I didn't put them there on purpose. Where could they have come from?

Are there any plants, substrate, or filters that were used on anything else before? Did you add any snails? or ever dip your hand from one tank over to this one? Various Vivaria
I squeezed the sponge from my 10gal community tank, but that's never had Cyclops or planaria before. I also stored some water lettuce while I was setting up a new mini pond.

No worries Planarians are only harmful in shrimp tanks. Yummy fish food depending on which fish you keep. 😁
Various Vivaria
Ok, that sounds great then, free fish food.
Various Vivaria
Ok now this is weird. I just found some sort of fish-tadpole-thing in the same tank. It appears to spend most of the time in the mulm, but regularly swims along the algae covered walls or floats at the surface. I swear this is not staged.

Guppysnail
I really can’t tell but your description of tadpole ? Does it look like these? Does one end stay still while the other waves around when it is on the mulm?
Various Vivaria
It doesn't look like those. It has a fishy head, and a long tail with a fin thing that wraps around the tail
Various Vivaria
Here are some slightly better pictures this one is upside down and it won't flip, sorry Edited August 19, 2021 by Various Vivaria
Guppysnail
You are right it does look tadpole like. I’d be interested to see what it grows up to be.
Various Vivaria
Based on some research I think it's a Cuban tree frog, which is actually invasive in my area. So it looks like I have a tree frog now.

PineSong
So cute, I am jealous. Love tadpoles and frogs. We used to put tadpoles in our fishtanks when we were kids. the bullfrogs took forever to turn, but the little black ones were frogs in a week, it seemed. Enjoy the little guy! Guppysnail
He looks bigger to me. 😍 Maybe you could start a Castro journal and link it to your signature. I would love to see him as he developes
Various Vivaria
I have forgot about the cyclops and planaria. The cyclops population does not seem to want to grow, but at least it's not shrinking. And I have not seen any planaria since I started this thread. Various Vivaria
Bad news, I put a small slice of banana in the tank as something to graze on, and it turned out that was enough to tip the balance and cause an amonia spike. Castro is dead, and there is a major dent in the cyclops population.😟
Various Vivaria
On a happier note anyone looking to raise tadpoles, they love to eat banana.
