  1. Removed the fry from the cave today. Their doing well. Here’s a pic there’s only a few on the almond leaf I bought from the co-op. But there’s about 20-25 under the leaf. I’ll start to drop crushed spirulina and krill tomorrow see what happens. I have 5 females and one male super reds. I need to buy another male or two. Time for bed. Water change day tomorrow.
  2. Time to start cleaning the discus tank and the pleco tanks. Would love to relax and do nothing but! It’s my privilege and duty to take care of this little guys. Let’s do this
  3. Thanks appreciate it!
  4. Was worried about the fry getting loose in the gravel. I’m still really new to this breeding thing, so I used some of Deans breeding advice and some supplies I had laying around and came up with this. Looks like it’s working out well. Until I can move them to a Ziss breeder box.
  5. Made a make shift fry box. Taking some notes from Dean the man and others. I didn’t want to see my new super reds get lost in the gravel so I mad a make shift fry box at lunch today. Seems to work well. I’ll let ya all know. The fry in the breeder box Pic are about a month and a half old. I love this hobby.
  6. I’m just getting into live plants. Sure does take the hobby to a different level. Them leaf’s look beautiful. A lot going on in them.
  7. Finally was able to fill up the 125. Can’t wait to put some fish in it. Cleaned the discus tank today as well. Went to the LFS and bought 6 Columbia red tail tetras to go with my other 10 I have in a 40 breeder. Would like to get them breeding. Any tips on that? oh bought a hill stream loach to. Excited to have him. Probably go back tomorrow but a couple more. Super cool fish. Super Red dad sitting on eggs again hoping he doesn’t abandon the cave again. Everyone have a great weekend
  8. I feel your pain. I started up a tank the other day hoping I had enough older sponges and and filters to insta cycle ammonia still read 25pp. I’ll give some more time I guess. All other numbers good though.
  9. I guess I haven’t. I know these little guys dart around really fast. The only thing that scares them anymore is a lid closing to fast or for some reason when I reach on the right side of the tank lol. Other then that they come up to my gravel vac and act like little puppies every time I come in her fish room. They have some good personalities. This is a little older pic and their a little bigger love these guys
  10. Not a pro since I just started taking care of Discus. Hope you get some good answers to help this little guy out.
  11. Did a few water changes. Cleaned out a few fry grow outs that my super reds are in. Btw I have two successful clutches finally. They might be easy for most but I’m just learning, so it’s nice to have some success. And I had a 125 sitting for awhile put the background on cleaned the glass which the pic doesn’t show the años being clean that is. And put some gravel in it. That was my sat. Relaxing for me.
  12. Beauties! Great pics. Your little guy looks like my little guy. A Turquoise ?
  13. Awesome. Thanks Scott. This is why I became a forum member. Great info.
  14. Wow that’s great info. I’m always looking for insight from other discus keepers. They do eat other things like bloodworms and flake easy. I’m been inquiring about freeze dried foods. But no one’s really given me a solid answer. With bloodworms I get worried about them getting back up. I had expensive fish die from what others told me a to high “protein diet”. From bloodworms? Idk they go crazy when I stick bloodworms in. out of some research I found out exactly what your saying about the size of fish luckily they have all reached the 4” or close size with the exception of Turquoise discus he’s not growing as fast. Even Hans from Hans discus said it’s better to bye the 4” cause all the hard work is done and you can enjoy the fish more. Boy he right lol. Thanks Thanks. I’m starting to figure out that it doesn’t have to be a staple in the diet. Thanks for the info. Seems like freeze dry might be something I add to my foods. Appreciate it
  15. Out of my discus I have one little guy possibly stunted that will spit out beef heart more then he eats it. I do very the diet but would like to see him eat beef heart. Has anyone had trouble with a discus not eating beef heart ? I think he might of gotten use to eating blood worms, stinker.
  16. Thanks I’ll give that a try see wha happens.
  17. I have a question along this topic. So I had to pull the eggs from my super red breeding pair. This is the 3rd clutch and I pulled them cause the last two the dad destroyed them or doesn’t watch them. I put the eggs in a tumbler and they just hatched. They look well, except I have some eggs that were fungal and now there in the tumbler looking big and clear with a white dot in the middle. Should I remove them from the wigglers ? Or leave them till I put them in a breeder box? Thanks
  18. Thanks for your input, I appreciate it! To be honest I had a bad experience with bloodworms in the past when I feed it to my flowerhorn when he was small. Had a bunch of internal issues, but not sure if it was a protein issue or pathogen issue. I do feed a bit of spirulina hoping to offset and balance the diet. Thanks again.
  19. I like what I’m reading here. I have 6 discus from Hans. I bought them all at 2.5”. I feed them beef heart from Jack Whattley for shipping it was a lot cheaper and think probably same quality. Homemade from there hatchery. I also feed flake from xtreme l, some brine and blood worms. which brings me to my next question. How many of you guys feed blood worms? I give them Hikari that are sold in the big sheets. There supposed to be flashed frozen. Pose to reduce the Pathogens. Any way tell me what you think about blood worms. Thanks
  20. Appreciate it. This helps a lot. I’ll probably pull the eggs. Might be the only way I can save most of the eggs. And the tip about peroxide, excellent 👌🏽. And I hope my kids get involved how fun.
  21. Good afternoon all! I am new to this, so if something I do isn’t right please let me know. i have a Super Red’s that have laid there second clutch. The first time the male seemed to only fan if I shined a light to see if there was any progress. Other then that he usually just lays by the cave entry facing towards or away from the eggs. My brown pleco male in another tank stayed consistent on his eggs and had a good hatch. The super R only had two Survive. Now he’s not acting interested again. Should I put them in a tumbler? Or what till their wrigglers to put them in a breeder box? Well if I could get a idea or two I’d appreciate it. Thanks
