  1. That’s where I got the idea. I couldn’t do a auto water change yet, so I had to figure how to keep a consistent flow. So that’s my hack. The large black Mat filter slows down the current plus carry’s beneficial bacteria.
  2. The larger tubing which is 1/4 ID is bring water from the aquarium using a small pump. To continually have fresh water in the shoe box. The shoe box has a small cut out and stuffed with Mat filter that lets water run back into the tank
  3. Received a new breeder box to accommodate the cave/ water spike I use for plecos I like it so far so good. It didn’t quite fit in my other caves. Still learning it’s a process.
  4. So I brought a fluval breeder box because they way I been hatching the clutches recently is I stick the whole cave/ water spike in the breeder box with a almond leaf under it. And some small pieces of wood and Christmas moss. So when the fry hatch I can remove the day or let the dad release the fry and I don’t have to worry about losing any. It’s been working good. And I tend to have other fish sometime that can be a pain to keep out of the cave. The resin I bought it is because it’s long enough to fit the water spike with room for the fry to grow with out doing a lot of moving. Still learning but this works for me know. So far so good. When I had the cave in the other breeder box it had to go in at a angle I rather have it flat. Just me I guess. Albino / brown in the new breeder and super reds in the tote above the 20 tall. New pics to com with wigglers
  5. Exactly you want to change the water to keep all the toxins down. And when there small you keep the water warmer and so there metabolism increases so they do eat more. If you do it in small portions I think is the key.
  6. The best advice I can give is water changes and lots of Feeding. I think this goes for most fish in general. It’s tough and I don’t think people stay committed to that because its a lot of work. I mean if you listen a lot of these master breeders there talking 10% water changes every day!!! I do a 30% every other day and seems to do good. That’s why I said on the new rack I’m using a auto water change To help with growth. And feeding 3-4 times a day or more in small intervals. Like I said it’s a journey and I been pulling advice here and there from breeders and making my own so far so good. Best of luck keep me posted
  7. That’s great. I think that pleco is awesome as well. Nice list of fish. I hope to increase my selection of species as well. All in time I guess. I’m building a rack for 20 gal grow outs. We will see what I can do there. Like to do auto water change on that rack. I would like constant fresh water to help grow out a title faster.
  8. Well I have some spawns going so excited. Had a few storms pass through and my super reds and albinos and albino and brown all spawned. Then I found about 10-12 fry sitting at the top of a tank I thought they were maybe eaten a while back. Lol it a a great day. Patients is something all the breeds say you must have. I’m patiently learning 😜
  9. Well when it rains it pours. Just a few days ago I said my plecos were not spawning even though there was lots of spawning activity. Well we had a few storms pass through so I did water changes and fed a lot. And today well I have my super reds sitting in eggs. I have albinos siting on eggs and a brown and albino sitting in eggs lol. Then I looked in a tank were the mom and dad just finish a week ago with a clutch and one day to the next they were gone. So I figured they were eaten or something. Well today I found the fry sitting at the top of the tank wow. Here we go.
  10. I was actually thinking about ordering the Brazilian pennywort. Nice to see it up in something.
  11. Lots more fry in the grow out and still growing. I have a female that looks like she ready to lay eggs nothing happing. Been doing water changes but no go. Super Reds and albinos in the grow out. The albinos had a clutch and the dad had to of eaten them. Smh 🤦🏽
  12. Man, I tried to get Good pic but I have rock on the bottom of the grow out and they just disappear. The best I could do. I had a video that you could see all the movements but it wouldn’t load
  13. Man! What a week. Even though I’m in the fish room every night, I feel like I haven’t accomplished anything in here this whole week. Work was crazy. But I found Time to do water changes move fry over to a grow out and re do kind of one of my tanks. Lots of ideas not enough time. Also added one of two aquarium co-op heaters looks great. Space saver and easy, easy to use I like it all around. good work! Also went down to the LFS and bought more frozen shrimp and bloodworms. No just enjoying room. Have a great weekend all
  14. Thanks. Yeah seems to be getting easier. Water changes and high protein food seems to set them off. Ton of fun
  15. Sounds like you have a great plan. I agree with the med additives. I rather not. I have had several clutches and tried moving the eggs adding meds ect. And the best clutches I have had is when I let the dad get them to wigglers and then I separated the fry and used a little make shift grow out tub. I do have a few breeder boxes but I feel like this new method works best until the fry are a little bigger idk you can really go Down a rabbit hole with all this stuff haha. We’ll keep us posted.
  16. Hi! i use one with a super red spawn. The dad at the time wasn’t a very good dad, so I pulled the eggs and put them in a tumbler. I loved it! BUT it was my first time and I would of done some things different. There’s a breeder I watch that puts the tumbler in a totally different 10g tank with some methylene blue or peroxide to help aid in the protection of the eggs from fungus. That might be might next move. And he says to adjust the air to just move the eggs around a little, he also takes out any eggs that are not fertile but he didn’t show that trick. How your spawn turns out awesome
  17. Today I cleaned all the tanks. I always break it up in different days. And now I remember why. 3.5 hours later I’m done cleaning. My work schedule was hectic this last week, so I put it off till today . Now I don't care what it takes or how late it is I’m sticking to my schedule. And getting them done during the week.
  18. My pride and joy. one day I will be able to breed these. Had him since he was a 1.5” long now about 5-6” long
  19. I miss all my angles! Anyone have a good place to buy some online? hard to find right now in my town
  20. Has anyone ever raised Columbian tetras? If so, what was the key to it? Getting ready to scape the 40 breeder for it.
