  1. My girl is with neon tetras, but she’s feisty so the tetras aren’t a problem for her. As for your girl: Bettas are super smart. Both of my bettas (I have a male by himself) are trained to eat at a food ring. When I first brought my girl home, it took her less than 10 minutes to figure it out. When I want to give her betta pellets she comes to the food ring and I give them to her. Then I feed everyone else. One of the pictures I posted shows her under a black “thing” that’s the floating feeding ring, I got it from Amazon. If you don’t have one already my bettas LOVE the zoomed floating betta logs, your girl might enjoy it too, gives a spot for herself 🙂
  2. I have a female betta in my community tank. First time I’ve had a betta with other fish. She is a chunker, because she chows down with the rest of the community fish. Should I take her out for a bit and fast her? Ignore the green water. I’m working on it lol
  3. Maybe try picking a different temperature and then unplugging it to see what it does? If it is faulty then it might be a good idea to say something just to give them a heads up.
  4. Does the new heater stay at the temperature you set it at, even after it loses power? Or do you have to reset it every time?
  5. Well from a quick Google search maybe the hygrophila, the stems look similar and the staurogyne looks like it doesn’t get super tall.
  6. This plant was at my local pet store. The “fish guy” was off when I went so the person helping me didn’t know what this was. Anyone know what kind of plant?
  7. Can you use it if you don’t have a HOB filter?
  8. I started using them because I thought there was imbalance from too much light and not enough nutrients.
  9. I was only doing large water changes because that was what someone suggested the last time I posted. I don’t mind the green water to an extent. I know it can be good, I just don’t like when it’s so green that I can’t see the fish unless they come close to the glass. And it’s hard to keep an eye on my plants when I can’t see them. I thought Val grew really easy, but in my tank it’s struggling and I can only see how it’s doing when I drain some water.
  10. Thank you 🙂 Yeah, the fish are doing great and I don’t mind the green water to an extent. I know it can be good, I just don’t like when it’s so green that I can’t see the fish unless they come close to the glass. If I drop a wafer in the back for the panda corys I can’t even see it sink to the bottom
  11. If I do turn on the second one it’s only for like 20 minutes to look at the fish a little better for a little bit
  12. *Long post alert* Ugh I am so frustrated right now. I do not have a knack for planted aquariums. This isn’t my first post about green water, starting to consider just giving up and getting fake plants. Before I list my tank info, I do realize I may have my tank overstocked, but the fish are all thriving. Info: 20 gallon tank (standard) 5 panda corys 8 ember tetras 1 endler 1 hill stream loach 1 Nerite snails Driftwood Pogo octopus plant Tiger lotus Crypts Struggling jungle Val Struggling ludwigia (barely any left) 1 medium aquarium co-op sponge filter 1 nano aquarium co-op sponge filter 2 Finnex stingray 2 lights (most of the time only one is on) Timer that is set from 6pm to 10pm No direct sun light Feed once a day Aquarium co-op easy green Occasionally will use root tabs Seachem potassium Ive tried daily water changes, big and small. I’ve already decreased my light time twice.
  13. Yes, the water is green and cloudy. Because of the green water, I’ve been changing almost 50% the last couple weekends, but I’ve also been taking out a little (no more then 25%) here and there during the week. I cut down on the ferts to try to help. My light comes on at 4 pm and goes off at 10 pm, with no direct sunlight. I took that picture the day before I decided to try cleaning my sponge filter. And cleaning my sponge filter was a “well I haven’t tried this yet” kind of moment, and when I did clean it I was shocked by how dirty it was. Thank you for explaining 🙂 The cleanliness of the tank glass and the possibility of a blurry lens could be slightly contributing to how the water looks, but 95% is how the water actually looks
  14. I was definitely thinking I should try cleaning the sponge every couple days to see if that helps and I was also thinking about getting a temporary HOB. I’m don’t understand what you mean about “running too much flow” through the sponge filter. I feel like my mulm isn’t bad, when I've been doing water changes recently I suck up what’s laying on the top of the gravel, but I do properly gravel vac occasionally. This tank is only 4 months old though (3 if you don’t count the cycling). This was Sunday when I was trying to get a pic of the Endler I got. I originally tried cleaning the filter because I’m not having any luck clearing up that water.
  15. @drewzero1 yeah, I might get a HOB. And no thank you on reconstructing the whole tank 😂 @Widgets I forgot about that!
  16. @Baphijmm I have a 20 gallon tall, the only reason I didn’t want another one is because I don’t know where I would put it. I’m finally happy with the way the tank looks. @lefty o I do see your point. I was hoping I wouldn’t have to move stuff around again, but it might be inevitable. @drewzero1 I have 6 panda corys and 8 ember tetras. But now that I’m thinking about it. The last time I cleaned it I added stuff, I moved stuff around, etc. I probably should have been on top of it more for a few day after. It looks like I might have to get another one, I just don’t know where to put it. My plants are FINALLY cooperating with me, so I didn’t want to disturb them.
  17. If my one sponge filter seems to be overwhelmed, do I have to get another one or can I just replace the one I have with a bigger one? Background: I have a 20 gallon tank with a medium aquarium co-op sponge filter. While trying to solve the mystery of my cloudy greenish tank, I decided to just see if cleaning the sponge filter would help. Well that thing was DIRTY! For reference the last time I cleaned it was 2 weeks ago.
  18. So when I got my panda corys about a month ago there were 4 decent sized and 2 smaller ones. I just noticed that one of the small ones looks like he might have been bullied a little. He’s lethargic and his tail has a small tear. Im thinking about setting up a “hospital” tank that I could make sure he’s getting enough to eat and put some aquarium salt in it. Since corys are social, should I bring over the other small one with him (perfectly fine, not getting bullied) or should he be by himself? Another idea, should I put him in a breeder box in the aquarium to see if some rest and food will help him? Also if I do need to set up a hospital tank, I don’t have an extra sponge filter, can I get away with just putting an air stone in the separate tank?
  19. I’m in the same situation. I just got my hillstream loach last week. He’s always out of sight, not necessarily hiding, but you have to search. Im worried my piggy panda corys will vacuum up any food I try to give him
  20. @Minanorayeah the sad reaction was more a frustrated one lol I do not have a green thumb, but I am completely redoing my tank this weekend and hopefully I can take what I’ve learned and get my tank looking a whole lot better 😁
  21. My other Java Fern is doing fine. Not sure what is wrong with this one.
  22. I was wondering how you make sure a Nerite snail gets enough food in a community tank. Right now mine is by herself with my betta. If I were to get some for my community tank that has corys and a hillsteam loach, how would I make sure it’s not getting out competed for food? I know they eat algae and other stuff in the tank, but I still feed my current one a shrimp food wafer every now and then.
