  1. @BETTA999, according to my sources, Zebra Danios only get 2 1/4 inches, which is too small. Giant danios get 6 inches, which would max out that tank.
  2. 2/16/22 I moved my Bluegill back into the 75, where she belongs. She was residing in the 110 trough, which I will cover in a moment, but I decided to move her. She has been territorial to the goldfish, but has not injured them, so all is fine. If she does ever injure them, I will swap her with the Longear in the 29-gallon until I get the goldfish back outside. For now, all is well. The crawfish in the 75 have come out more frequently, so every time I see them, I drop in an algae wafer for them to eat. Pig, my largest male goldfish, has been harassing Shekel, my largest goldfish, a lot, which leads me to believe that Shekel is female. Hopefully they don't breed, since Pig looks to be the product of inbreeding, and I don't want his to pass his genetics. I finally cleaned out the 110. I dumped all the water out and found that some Stonerollers that I had put in there las year, had suprisingly survived in the tank! I moved them into the 75-gallon, though because there's only 4 of them, I plan to release them back into the body of water i collected them from. There they'll be able to find other Stonerollers. My plan for the 110 is to get an Eheim canister filter, since the sponge filter did not keep the water clean. Once I get the filter, I'll start the cycling process, and move the goldies back in. I also plan to get a lamp for the tank, maybe even try to grow some anubias in it. My main goal with the tank is to be a goldfish recue tank, which means if I get ny goldfish that have been surrendured, they'll live in that tank. In the 15-gallon, I noticed that a pair of Lambchop rasboras are trying to breed. I planted a tiger lotus bulb, that way they'll have some leaves to ley they're eggs on. I put a heater into the 10-gallon Mosquitofish tank, to give them a little boost to breed. I've noticed that one of the females looks to be pregnant, and I hope she is. I noticed more snail eggs in the 5-gallon fry tank. Yesterday I went out and collected aquatic inverts to feed my longear, though when they went into the tank, they all hid in the course gravel, though Poky was able to get one aquatic isopod, and I'm sure the Bullhead grabbed some inverts last night. I mainly did this to figure out where the aquatic inverts were, that way I know when I go to collect some for my new 5 gallon. I got a 5-gallon tank from my grandfather since he didn't need it. My plan is to turn it into a native invert tank, with some Amphipods, aquatic Isopods, and Bladder snails. Today I'm gonna rinse it out, then paint the back and sides black. I also cleaned out my mother's 5 gallon that used to hold her female Crowntail, who sadly passed away to dropsy. She's not sure what she'll do with it, but I think she's gonna get Neon tetras or Glowlight tetras.
  3. well, is your current filter causing any issues?
  4. Hi everyone! I'm looking for a schooling fish for my 29-gallon, and I need yall guys' help. here are the requirements: must be coldwater tolerant at least 3-4 inches are active, not shy lemme know what fish yall can think of!
  5. and a lot less stressful
  6. @Flumpweesel, he has 3 29 gallons in the room, and according to him, the lowest it ever gets in there is 66F, but usually it stays around 68-72F.
  7. Hi everyone! My grandfather has recently had an empty 10-gallon tank. He keeps coldwater tanks only since he's hesitant of heaters. So, what's yall guys recommendation for a cold water 10g?
  8. well, what fish is it being aggresive to? How many of these fish do you have? what size is the tank?
  9. congrats! I've never had too much interest in Discus, though my mom loves south american cichlids, so she plans to get some one day.
  10. I know that E. gloriosus can live in a 20 gallon, so I would say that it sould be able to as well.
  11. how cool! I used to have Orangethroat darters, I'm thinking of getting some again this year!
  12. @Bende13, my grandfather got into the hobby that way! He's the reason I even know about those bait shiners.
  13. yeah, I'd say stick with what you have. If you ever get em in a bigger tank, here's what I recommend: Pseudomugil furcatus Pseudomugil signifer Phalloceros caudimaculatus Melanotaenia maccullochi all of these fish have been found in Australia (Phalloceros is not native but is still found there), so you won't have to worry about twisting parameters. If it works for your rainbows, it'll work for these guys.
  14. @jwcarlson, Sculpins are cool! it's a fish I'd love to have in my collection, cuz I've seen them near me. This spring & summer, I plan to do a lot of collecting (ethically, ofc)! I have a journal on my page, so when I do start collecting, I'll likely document it there.
  15. @Fish Folk, I agree, Rainbow Shiners are gorgeous. @jwcarlson, I'm getting these commons cuz they're cheap, though one day I would like to keep Bleeding Shiners (Luxilus zonatus), shown below.
  16. Hi everyone! I plan on buying some Common Shiners (Luxilus cornutus) from a bait shop near me and keeping them in a couple of my tanks. If you have experience with keeping them, or any other shiner, please feel free to leave any information you can, thx in advance!
  17. @Widgets, thank you for pointing this out, I'm not exactly sure what to do. For now, I'll just leave them together, maybe one day I'll set up a separate tank for the lambchops. Do you know if Harlequins and Lambchops will hybridize? I've seen this school inhabit breeding behavior; I don't want to sell hybrids if it is possible for them to hybridize.
  18. 2/7/22 One of the goldfish in the 75 had some torn fins, which I am assuming is from the crawfish, since this certain goldfish and the crawfish are commonly scrapping with each other over algae wafers. I dosed the tank with Melafix, and accidently dosed it twice the amount needed. Everything seems fine, so I;m not too worried about it. I also topped off the 5 gallon and the quarantine tank. The qt will be ready for the Shiners I plan to get tomorrow. Some of the native plants in my 15 are having issues' it seems they don't like their stems buried, so I glued a couple to some rocks, hopefully that goes well. Plans for the future: clean the 75-gallon filter.
  19. Can you take some photos of him and send it on here? It might be that the tank is too small for him. I'm not well versed in Senegals, but I know that Ornate Birchirs need at least 100 gallons, so maybe try getting him a larger tank, maybe not a 100 gallon, but maybe a 60 gallon. Though I'd still send those photos, it may be a disease.
  20. Hi everyone! I currently have a 15-gallon Fluval Flex with a school of Harlequin Rasboras. I was wondering if I could put in a Hillstream Loach. Thx in advance!
  21. Hi everyone! quick question, can Bettas be kept with WCMMs? asking for a potential hobbyist.
  22. I also have hard water, have been using the recommended amount and most of my plants do fine.
  23. Here are some fish I can recommend for each tank, as well as some snail species. I think one species of fish with one snail would be fantastic for these tanks! South American tank: Corydoras hastatus Nannostomus marginatus Pomacea bridgesii Neritina reclivata Asian tank (couldn't think of any fish from this region that I'd put in this size tank, so it's just snails): Clea helena Stenomelania Neritina variegata Neritina auriculata Melanoides maculata Neritina pulligera Faunus ater Vittina waigiensis Clithon Neritina juttingae Neritodryas dubia Melanoides tuberculata Septaria porcellana Vittina jovis Neripteron rubicundus Brotia pagodula Thiara winteri Neritina violacea Neritina semiconica Angulyagra zamboegensis African tank: Neolebias ansorgii Neritina natalensis I couldn't find anything that I would put in that size of tank and comes from Australia, though I'm sure other people here will have plenty of other ideas!
  24. @Greg Stewart, it is kind of new to the tank, may be in there for 3 weeks? it was actually in this tank with its original setup, but when we were in the process of taking it down, we didn't have places for the plants, so we just left them in the gravel along with 2 inches of water above the gravel. Once we cleaned this tank out fully, I moved all of the plants into multiple tanks. Then when I finally got to rescape this tank, I moved some of the crypts into it. That process you recommended, that seems like a little bit too much to do, thank you, but no thank you. I'll see how the plants do overtime and go from there. I have a topic on my account called "My Official Journal", I will likely leave updates on these plants there. @JoeQ, the other plants you see are locally caught plants that I'm trying to grow so I can ID them properly. Every time I've collected them, they look like that, so my theory is that if I grow them in a tropical, nutrient filled environment (I collected them from a shallow, coldwater ditch), their true colors will show, and I'll be able to see what they are. But it could just be that that's their only coloration, only time will tell. On my account I have a topic named "My Official Journal", if anything happens with these plants I will likely put it on there.
  25. I have very little knowledge on leeches, sorry.
