I've kept these fish for years now and still enjoy them. They are easy breeders and you'll get fry surviving with a little cover for them. A dwarf sag carpet is perfect IMO but you can get away with less. They aren't picky eaters and they will eat from the top of the water column to the bottom. They will breed on dry foods but on baby brine they breed like crazy and fry are big enough to eat BBS right after birth. My summer tub colony tolerates 90's water temps just fine and can handle low water temps around the 50's. Much below that they cannot take though. They are very easy to sex with males being much slimmer and have a gonopodium, while females are more round have a dark spot on their anal fin. They are a very hardy fish but if water quality gets truly bad the males will drop much earlier than the females. They are a fish built for more still waters do well in lower current tanks.
It's a super fun fish and IMO shows best when you grow the colony so the tank has a ton of them in there. When that happens you can feed and food won't hit the substrate with so many tiny mouths and it's not hard to get them to eat out of your hands. Plus with it being the smallest vertebrate in North America you can have a very high number of them and yet have a very small bio load.

I've had small broyzoa colonies in my aquariums and really enjoyed them, I think they may still be surving in a filter tube some where. But while fishing this weekend I snagged a weed and pulled in a fist sized colony. It was so fun, more so that a big bass tbh. The gel colony was much firmer than I expected.

From what I remember atm the meme thread thumbnail was the image from this post but the color was inverted Meme Thumbnail

I've noticed others have changed but I cannot pin down where the image is.

Been a busy summer but I finally finally got around to making a light for my DIY BBS hatchery. Designed and 3d printed the lid, wired up a couple led's with a regulator, and covered with ample hot glue to seal it up. I'll be getting my slightly better hatch rate now per the study in this thread 🙂

Sry guys I had to go out of town unexpectedly until after the holiday 😞 I can't give the contest the attention it needs / deserves. That being said if someone wants to take up the mantle I'll still happily provide this years trophy.

Yeah for sure lets try to work something out, I'm a little south of Chicago. So far I'm getting good hatch rates, more eggs than I can raise, and atm things are good.
Today I needed to add feet to my DIY bbs hatchery stand. Foam dart heads, (nerf dart heads but not nerf), work quite well.

I was literally thinking about getting one of those and modifying it as a remote solar pump for one of my ponds. I haven't closely looked at one yet but I would bet that it's just 5v usb in and the battery is a 3.7V nominal lithium ion battery. Solar panels come in 6V so splicing one into the micro usb cable and using a regulator or resistor to drop the extra volt may work.

That the water quality is not identical in all three tanks. More info may help, I.E. your test strip results in all three tanks, tank history, feeding schedule, maintence schedule, photos often can help. Otherwise maybe run some carbon in the other tanks to see if whatever is bothering the snails can be pulled out of the water.

Yup, the one I use is very similar to that one. Black plastic body with stainless steel mesh.
