  1. Hi all 😁 I'm curious about possibly using 1 or 2 air pumps for several tanks since I'm rearranging my tanks and adding another 40g. I have a corner with a 29, 15, the new 40 and a couple 10s. I run aquaclear hobs with 1 or 2 sponge filters and/or airstones and hang-on back breeders. Looking for ideas/recommendations instead of having 1 per 1 or 2 tanks as I do now.
  2. This is why I'm beginning to think whatever is going on is adhered to the substrate. ATM there are no fish in tank 1. Maybe hydrogen peroxide? At this point forcing a mini cycle mat be faster. Remove the cycled media first before adding the peroxide. Idk If I can get tank 1 settled I can move the fish into it from tank 2.
  3. Oh I did that. I actually got some from a friend because I had used my backup media for my 40 and 15. Tank 1 has throughly dank cycled media in it. The reading are still the same as the entire month before.
  4. After almost a month of dealing with this I'm at a loss. I tried the *let it be* approach. Tank 1, the ich tank, I moved the remaining lemon plecos into the newly cycled 40 after their recovery (I lost 3 Lf lemons) and the embers into my 15 fry tank. I let it have a bacterial bloom then 10 days ago did an 80% change, rinsed filters in the removed water, deep vac the gravel and refilled. The first readings are that tank. No its not cycling those are the exact same readings as before change. I run about a 5-10 nitrate. The 2nd tank should have a stock share in Prime as it houses my L333, 2 GBR and 5 phantom tetras. Once again, those readings have not changed in the last 3 weeks despite the usual weekly water changes of 20/30%. So the *let it be* isn't working either. My other 29, 2 10s, 40 and 15 are fine. Since I know what a cycling tank looks like , I'm going to assume from the results with first tank that the dead bbs are embedded in or on the substrate. Unless someone has another idea. I had hoped to clear up tank 1 which has no fish and move the fish from tank 2 into it then address that tank. I'm at a loss 😔😢

    What now ?

Waiting a couple hrs to let charcoal and purigen clear tank out bit of the ich meds before I start w/ Furan. Orginally I was trying not to keep messing with water changed only 25% every other day w meds, as suggested in previous post and hope bio would even it out but w/ deaths no luck on dealing w ammonia and its not better. I was afraid of this snowballing.

    What now ?

No ich just fin rot. I am clearing meds w purigen and charcoal atm. This is what I have on hand. Need recommendations please.

    What now ?

Continue w ich meds ? Its really bad quick

    What now ?

50% done. Its looking like fin rot on the other now. I don't think Ridich plus does anything for that. I could stop these meds put charcoal and purigen to clear it out and try another approach. This is the only one struggling.

    What now ?

With the salt/meds in tank it wouldn't shock both the system and the fish to do that.? Check out my initial post about the ammonia I had started with that initially.

    What now ?

As some of you may know my tank was besieged with huge ammonia spike issues after a child dumped a lot of dead baby brine shrimp into my tank. This was followed by an outbreak of ich that hit 3/7 bristlenose and 2 ember tetras. I know y'all heard this before but at the time and because of availability I chose this treatment. https://plecoplanet.com/health/ick-parasite-treatment-for-plecos/ using salt and Ridich plus. Addressing the illness came first and I have been dosing Prime daily for the ammonia issue. Today is day 10 of treatment. I began 20% wc every other day 3 days ago while continuing Ridich plus. I had seen progress/elimination of spots on the embers and at least 1 or 2 of the plecos a few days ago. Today I found this, which makes me wonder if there is now secondary issues going on. Ammonia is still not under control. It appears my system may have crashed as well. KH/Gh ' 3-4 Ph 6.2 Ammo 4 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0-5 What next ? There is still medication & a concentration of salt in the tank although I've done 2 20% wc including and Ammonia still isn't budging. I had also lowered temp from 83 to 81 the last 24 hrs What now ? Change treatment and how w salt and meds in tank etc? Help please. Edit. Just found a 2nd one starting to decompose behind/under sponge filter. A 3rd longfin is looking weak. Quarantine tank is full atm waiting all this out the last 2 wks. But at this point....I'm at a loss.
  11. Presently treating ich with both salt and meds. I didn't over-do it on salt. It builds up gradually as not to shock the bio, plants, & fish until it hits a certain concentration over 4 days. Then I stop adding, unless I did a 20% partial w/c in which case I added a tbsp to cover the fresh water added and keep levels the same. After over a week, my plants are fine. With w/c I will slowly decrease the amounts for the same reason after. Frankly, it appears to actually be having a positive affect on most of my plants. Just make sure to dissolve the salt in water before adding it to the tank.
  12. Good girl 😀 Get those vitamins into you.
  13. Discovered this easy way to check progress on plecos w/ich and make sure they boost their immune system w/food. I've kept an island of floating driftwood in the pleco tank. During the ich outbreak I noticed the plecos with ich hanging out on it, all the time, presumably for current and O2. Only those with ich were on the island It's definitely making it easier to check their progress, instead of wondering/searching. Yesterday a piece of zucchini had floated up and I spied one of them munching on it so I decided to offer them something today. I figured I'd share this as an idea of how to determine who is sick, check progress, and perhaps spoil them a smidgen 😀 Not sure this will work for everyone but, it's worth a shot 😉
  14. ❤🙏 Yes my mother died suddenly in 2015 as well. Since then its been all work and working on the home I bought. I needed this
  15. Thank you for the help. Let me properly introduce myself and tell you a little about me and the obsession we all share I'm a menopausal woman who rather than collecting cats (I have 2) I chose fish.😁 I had tanks most of my childhood, bred guppies and cichlids in the late 80s/90s, and had 2 tanks in Fla I had to give up 16yrs ago to care for my father. Last year, I was offered a 3mo old 29g and 10g for free and decided it was time to get back into *hobby* breeding and do what I enjoyed. Fish relieve anxiety right? 🤣 Since then, I expanded so I have 2- 29, 1-20, a 10g quarantine, 10gal grow up, 15g for fry and a 40 I am designing atm as some will be moved into that. Below in order are my lemon pleco tank. I had a piece of driftwood that wouldn't sink despite boiling and soaking for months. I attached it to a line and presently, its made it easier to check progress as all 3 that had ich are attached (presumably for O2). The embers have recovered. My grow up/albino tank with 3 emperor tetras and 2 lf albino girls. My Tiger tank (until 40 is finished) with 2 male L333 ( I have a video that shows how that was determined), a pair of rams that don't like each other, 4 phantom tetras and 3 rescued otos. My Angel/cory tank that also has my gorgeous LF albino boy and some flame tetras. The large orange/white angel was given to me *cheap* as a canary in the mine during cycling my initial 29 tank. She recently laid eggs The 2nd was a rescue from 2 mo ago and had bent and broken fins. He/she has healed and doubled in size. Some of these will be eventually moving into my 40g. Since I live alone and size of my home, its a lot easier to maintain 40 and under sized tanks. I do plan on eventually adding a couple more. 😇😁 Once again thanks to those who responded while I was panicked over my ammonia issue. Blessings 💜🙏🐠
  16. Thank you. I had followed advice from FB initially. I won't touch the non-ich tank. Medication indicates 20% change. I did the salt / Rid-ich plus tx I found recommended for plecos because that's what was available immediately to me. I'll just keep using Prime, quit worrying, and give it a week to next wc in the non-ich tank. I've got at least 5-10+ days to finish treatment in the pleco tank and will follow your advice after that's taken care of. 🙏❤🙏
  17. I just rechecked my tap. 0 ammonia. My bacteria I purchased a couple weeks ago on this site and expires 2022. I don't always add it on w/c and have added to my other tanks that aren't affected. This is why I'm perplexed on my options. 😖 I'm at a standstill in my Bn tank because of having to address ich w/ salt and medicine, at least for the next week to 10 days but am still doing 20/25% wc daily as per instructions. The other non-ick tank I'm at a loss with. I think if I can rectify it in that one, once the ich tx is over I can then focus on that one. 😔
  18. I've checked my tap. I have 3 other tanks with no issues (29 and 2 10) and 1 15 cycling). I understand about the tap. Beginning of March, the snow melt had tap water all messed up w ammonia and Ph until the treatment plant straightened it out. We generally have extremely soft water here.
  19. If there's still BB in the substrate and HOB, that confuses me and I assumed some of the die off would be in the sponges. My other levels are normal.
  20. Major ammonia issue. A week ago, Wednesday, a kid I was babysitting overnight tossed about 1/4 cup of baby brine shrimp (which may of been dead as I was planning on tossing them) into 2 of my tanks. I found out Thursday when it spiked presumably from die off. 1 tank has 7 juvenile Lemon BNs & 5 Ember tetras The 2nd tank has 2 juvenile L333 2.5", 5 young phantom tetra, 2 German rams and 3 rescued oto. Since then both tanks got a 50% wc initially and have been doing 20-30% almost daily plus Prime daily. I've also added Pristine or Fritz bacteria on wc . I'm not seeing much of a difference yet. Ammonia still around 2-4 in both tanks.. I've removed rocks vacuuming under them, tap rinsed my sponges & intake on the HOBs. Added a 2nd sponge into the Bn tank too. Sunday, I noticed ich spots on 2 bn and an ember. I've focused on the ich issue in that tank entirely and continued daily wc. Luckily the other tank is ich free and also has had daily 25% changes. Other levels nitrite 0, nitrate 5, Ph 6.6 I'm mentally exhausted on what else to do. (On the bright side ich is clearing up.)
