I’m just wondering why someone would want to fast their fish 🐟 if not for the purpose of shipping?  What benefits do they get from this?
just asking.

to prevent over feeding. an example is my angelfish are PIGS and will eat all the food in the jar if they had a choice. They are on the chunkier side, and so I fast them one day (along with all my other fish) so that they can loose some of that chunkieness.

Well I think fasting is a good way to keep their diets in check. Even if you aren't feeding doesn't mean they aren't eating. There are plenty of microorganisms and other stuff for them to feed on. I also feel that after a day of fasting my tanks look cleaner and my fish eat more and waste less food.

I feed 2-3 times a day. So I figure one day not feeding and letting them feed off of anything in the tank is a good healthy routine.

Every Tuesday I have an intense work schedule so I plan my fasting around this day. I don't feed and I reduse my light schedule to maybe only an hour so I can see them when I get home at night.

We designate Sunday as a scheduled fasting day for all adult fish. Fry still get fed. It curbs some affects from over feeding, allows bio filtration a chance to catch up, and encourages certain fish to explore their aquarium space, nibble on greens, and pass food through their system (which is why fasting before shipping is done). Furthermore... it keeps us fishkeepers from always overdoing it. Feeding hungry fish Monday morning before work makes you fall back in love with every tank... every fish...

@Jollypop4321 as said by others there are several reasons to fast fish. I try to fast the adults every Sunday, but sometimes I forget. I do it to encourage scavenging since I know I overfeed (I can't help it) and there is food in nooks and crannies that they'll ignore unless I skip a day of feeding. Fish can also get blockages from overfeeding so regular fasting helps prevent that. But mostly it encourages my fish to help keep their tank clean.
