DaveO
Just for fun I decided to try to breed some of my Golden Dwarf Barbs. I have a 10 gallon quarantine tank sitting empty of fish and full of plants, snails, and shrimp. So I added a couple females and one male who were acting fiesty. This was on the first of May with a storm coming in, so I figured the timing was good. It took an hour to get them out of their planted home tank, but finally I got 'em. The next day all three were exhausted from spawning by 10:00am, so I quickly netted them back to their home tank. The results were these two little guys here. I'm going to try again in hopes of improving the number of fry. 2

It's been too long, five weeks i think, since I pulled the parent fish. I don't mind destroying my tank trying to net them out, so I'm going to try again.😅

Colu
Your snails probably eat most of the eggs I would try using a tank with no snails if your going to try and breed them again

I might thin out the snails' population before I try again, but I don't want a dedicated breeding tank. I have reached my limit on number of tanks, at least for now.

DaveO
Yes, this is my 32g flex. I also have a 15 gallon with a bunch of chili rasbora. I was going to show the other barb yesterday but the forum was down. Here's a shot of two babies and some older siblings.
DaveO
Look what I found in here today. Five more baby barbs, hopefully more tomorrow. It's been just four days since they spawned, so I'll let you know what happens. 1

DaveO
Not record breaking, I admit.😁
DaveO
Today I thinned out the guppy grass because it got too thick. Also it was full of hair algea. I was kind of concerned a baby barb could get tangled in it. So after I did that I was able to see eight fry darting around. Some were on the glass and rocks, others on plants. They are still quite small and hard to see. Here's a few snapshots I was able to get. 1
DaveO
Here is a quick update. As near as I can figure, these golden dwarf barbs were hatched 17 days ago. They are starting to get some of their barb color and pattern now. Also, chasing down and pigging out on frozen baby brine shrimp. Today I was able to count 11 fry. Here's a couple shots. 1

DaveO
The fry count keeps increasing. I'm up to 20 baby barbs now. Here's a shot of 12, maybe 13 in one frame. 1
DaveO
Today is exactly one month since the parent fish scattered the eggs that are now these guys. They actually seem to recognize me as the food guy. 1
DaveO
Today I was able to get a photo of all 31 barbs in one shot. Yes 31. Thanks to @Colu informing me of the killer snails in the tank, I was able to increase the fry count from two to 31. This time I removed by hand every snail I could see before putting the spawners in the tank. That was a chore that lasted a solid two days. After they spawned and I removed the parent fish, I continued squishing very small snails that appeared for several more days. I'm guessing one or two more weeks before I move them into their forever home. This has been a lot of fun. 1

Of course they all had to hide cuz I am looking at them.
DaveO
This morning I moved all the baby barbs to their forever home. As I netted them out of the ten gallon I kept count. Final number from this spawn is 33. I'm very pleased with that. I have 15 in the flex (32 gallon) already, so adding these new babies will make a nice large group. They are always active and zooming around so it's going to be fun to watch them all. I tried to get some photos but they are not cooperating at all. Anyway, here's what I could get. 2
DaveO
The move to the bigger tank has gone well. All the bigs and all the smalls getting along famously. Here's a clearer shot of some of them hanging out. There's even a couple of the cousins, the dwarf amber barbs, in the group. 2
