The Goatee
Fish For Thought gave me the idea a few months ago to create a “nurse log” aquascape. I have had a piece of driftwood soaking in a bucket for 4 months. Bought some plants, all anubias varieties, and Christmas moss and attached it to the wood. Used things on hand for the rest, including an old 2.5 gallon aquarium, Fluval stratum, filter, and light. Don’t know if I will put anything in here. Maybe some shrimp? 3
FLFishChik
Oh, I think it looks so awesome! Shrimp would definitely be a great choice and would really stand out against the substrate and plants!
bryanisag
Looks great! Maybe try elevating the log a bit with some rocks or more wood underneath. Right now in the pics at least it looks real low and flat. Some height might give it more intrigue.
Brandon p
just moss, plants, shrimp, snails and some neons. One with just shrimp would be great. I have ghost shrimp so there hard to see. I think your idea is great. Have fun and enjoy it.

I would add a few amanos and call it good. I really wish I had a 15L or smaller tank for plants like this.
Kurt Brutting
Beautiful tank and great idea. I love the idea! Anubias, moss, and buce make a great nurse log!
PineSong
Looks great! Is the plan to let it grow and multiply so you'll always have a supply for inhabited tanks?

The other intriguing thing is if it does well, I can just pull out the wood and put it in another aquarium. On 7/21/2022 at 7:34 PM, FLFishChik said: Oh, I think it looks so awesome! One of the leaves has pushed up almost to the top of the water. I am curious to see how all the plants and moss grow for a few months. I think vertical space will grow with time.
IanB
Love this idea! I think once you have figured out all you want to with the nurse log, it would be cool to either add shrimp (as so many have suggested) OR add a couple wabi kusa balls which operate on sort of the same principle but would allow for stem plants and so on. It would effectively create flexible building blocks for aquascapes.

The Goatee
A couple of months later… some algae, cleaned a bit out, but all the plants still growing and moss filling in. Maybe I will try a small batch of shrimp next month.
