fishmom
I am about to have an established 10 gallon (currently housing a betta that is moving up to my work and a few random blue dream shrimp) and am wanting to try something I haven't done before, and am wanting something that would be a small breeding project. I have done the regular guppies, platys etc. Current tank conditions are about 78 degrees with moderately hard water, pH 7.5, eco-complete substrate with lots of moss, floating plants and a few stem plants. Any suggestions on who would like to make babies in my tank? (The free money part is I just came back from a cruise casino $500 up so I have fish money to spend) Also, when I logged in today, I got my '1 year in' badge, so happy fishy birthday to me! Thanks friends! Edited May 19, 2022 by fishmom
JettsPapa
10 gallons is a great size for shrimp, and your water is just about perfect for neocaridinas (you could turn the heater down though; or off). Ten shrimp would turn into 100 in a hurry. If you're interested here's a link to a post I made a while back with some basic information. fishmom
I have done every color of neo shrimp, as well as crystal reds and blue bolts.
Keeg
I have found wild bettas to be fun. An idea could be a black water tank. Or you could even do a pea puffer tank. If you want to stick with the live bearers, I personally enjoy short body sword tails or balloon mollies. Some people they shouldn't be bred or kept because of their malformed body, but hey if people can enjoy some thick goldfish then why not some thick mollies 😂

But I love them anyway. Haven't even thought about wild bettas. Thanks for the idea.

Dancing Matt
I feel ya, I only have 2 (45 and 20Long) and am trying to squeeze in a 5gal. I would love to upgrade in size but... no space in our tiny place 🙂
L_goodei200
Maybe a pair of Apistos? If it were me, it would have either Enneacanthus sunfish, Bluefin Killifish, one of the Elassoma spp., one of the smaller Fundulus spp., darters, Pteronotropis shiners, or some species of wild livebearer in it, but I know those aren't everyone's cup of tea. Jawjagrrl
How about Clown Killies (rocket killifish)? Just watched a video of Cory talking about these being pretty easy to breed - not predatory on eggs or fry as adults (juveniles will). Always in demand because they aren't always easy to find and very striking in a tiny package. I was actually considering this for a portrait 5gal I want to move my shrimp into. Guppysnail
I breed Celestial pearl danios. They are wonderful fun. I pulled an internet pic for you. Mine have the zoomie all the time so I can’t get good stills. Drop the temp to 73-75 for these guys. Your shrimp will enjoy the cooler temps as well. I have very hard water and these kiddos do wonderful and if you watch close enough they have social hierarchies and are like watching a soap opera. Second suggestion Emerald dwarf rasbora same care as CPD. Why I recommend these us because I really want them myself and just have no room. So trying to live vicariously through others 🤣. They have the same personalities as the CPD from my understanding Pygmy corydora would pair well with either of these in a planted 10g. They breed for me in hard water 74 degrees. I have those as well. Crazy fun active little cuties. At the end I’ll put a few videos of my Pygmy cpd tank for you. other suggestions would be corydora habrosus or hastatus. I don’t have those either but want them. I love spending other folks money feel free to ask for more of my nano want list 🤣 congrats on your win. I have more videos of both in my journal if you want to look. I have 2 breeding CPD colonies I love them so much Sorry some videos posted twice. I don’t know how to get them off. Waterlife
Rams would be cool and easy and they are small. Get a breeding cave from Cory and some Apistogramma C reds, or blue rams etc. They take care of the babies for a while too. https://www.ebay.com/itm/115455892812?hash=item1ae1b51d4c:g:X-gAAOSwKiBimMpf https://www.ebay.com/itm/313993560022?hash=item491b797fd6:g:dOgAAOSwkmBifHK3&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA4JMUVASSsWGaT%2FMyG04vYgEFIG1ybiTVMcW6n4CiQLvqWSCJjoiZEaFyKQ7LWwyqP4OY2CuY1KJlGSXoCFfOhlL3VVE8Ie9u3s2ei4sNYXprbRN%2FBYU8BrI5k%2Fj4Oge%2FyXuyRs%2FnfMJIWAelhUs5ejA%2BMV1q%2B5tPY8Z2RBet53aQJJ1N5JmBQUmumQ4i0s1soqt9l4LHycyzD6Sy04t6GwmxpgQXmy5QlnI92bQc6I5zmejePfekRRVZo3gu%2FJ1jDLYkIqArodFchbwP9lILrmWCCKtmRevbphHKz1POgTfy|tkp%3ABFBMyq-q-r1g
Tyler Kaplan
I would think about something like the Dario dario - Scarlet badis! Very fun little fish, super colorful. Does wonderfully in a heavily planted tank.
nabokovfan87
I would try like heck to get into a 20L aquarium, but let's stick with 10G. I think having a very heavily planted tank for something like oto breeding and white cloud mountain minnows is just interesting.
