Fish Folk
Alrighty, it’s building time in the mini fishroom! First, I moved the overwatch bass above the discus tank… Then I found studs, and screwed in wall strips… Add brackets plus a shelf… And this is how it holds 10x Gallon jugs… I’ll add one shelf above, and then affix strip LED lights underneath. 3
Fish Folk
Got items for the top shelf / “light-lid” for this set up. Can’t wait to see how it ends up! Made the (mistake?) of letting my little guy feed the BETTA. Oh dear… 1
Fish Folk
I’m normally not all that happy with stuff I build. But this time… I’m pleased! Got an additional shelf, and mitred + painted some trim… Screwed that together, and added strip LED plugged into aquarium timer… Can’t wait til those jugs are planted all up and ready for Betta Imbellis fry! Fish Folk
Put a floating airline loop around sponge filter air bubble release to help still water surface for building more effective bubble nest. Fish Folk
I’m going to build a taller betta chastity tube for introducing prospective pairs. Just don’t spell it backwards… you’ll lower your IQ. 1
Fish Folk
Here we go! Introducing the pair… Catappa leaves arrived from Co-Op today. I trimmed one, and laid on top for possible bubble nest structure.
Fish Folk
Well, “CAREy” has managed to build a small bubble nest. I’m cheering! But the Mrs isn’t overly impressed. My experience in past has always been with B. Splendens. Males often brutalize females. I’ve heard _sometimes_ B. Imbellis pairs can get along well enough in a breeding tank til the deed is done. He sure has a crush… She’s not showing “bars” yet. I’m so impatient… Maybe I’ll let her out… 😬 1
Fish Folk
Alrighty… I’m just gonna let them have a room… see what happens… 4
Odd Duck
Looks promising. She keeps inspecting the nest, he’s not chasing or harassing excessively, she looks very eggy. All seems like good signs to me! 1
Torrey
She's not attacking him, so I would offer some live food and see what they think. ::fingers crossed::

Fish Folk
Doing this again! “Cometh the hour, cometh the Betta” or some such… Atta-boy… Mmm Hmm… Courtship is a wee rough 😬
Fish Folk
So! We have some fry. They’re really, really hard to see… Here I’m feeding…
anewbie
I might have missed it but with this species of betta do you have sep male from female after they breed or can you leave them both in the tank to care for the youngs. I'm pretty sure there is at least type of betta where both parents will care for the frys.

Maybe they’ll get better at it though.
Fish Folk
Woah! NERMs got to check out a surprise find of my day… A few minutes later, serving up bbs (wait for it)…
Fish Folk
Dear oh dear… this is where “gone girl” ended up… she must have jumped tank when I moved her back after the last spawning…
Fish Folk
Long story short… the Betta Imbellis project has run aground. Females have died. Male remains. Fry did not survive. *sigh* HOWEVER! Today I just became a child all over again in the pet-store. I’ve got to succeed with anabantids! 3

Anjum
Sorry to hear about the Imbellis. Any idea why the fry didn't survive? I've recently become more interested in the species bettas. But I'll always love the big fancy splendens. Good luck w/ your new ones!

Fish Folk
Wanted to share a little DIY following some recommendations from Asian Betta breeders. Got some Sterilite food storage containers… Cut a hole in the lid… Trimmed Mesh and Diffuser circles… Here’s how it all goes together…
