Alec
I just got a 26 gallon bow front tank and stand combo from an old neighbor. The tank was made in 2005, so I assume the stand is just as old. I just resealed the tank. I was thinking about screwing in some 2×4s on the inside of the stand to help stabilize it a little more. Do you guys think this will work to stabilize it more or should I leave it be?
lefty o
its probably more than fine as is, but id make a shelf inside that thing for more storage, and to help stabilize it a bit more.
Alec
@lefty o That's what I was thinking. I was hoping I'd still have some room after I add bracing and shelf to put a 5.5 gallon under.
StevesFishTanks
It looks strong enough. The open back and space are nice for things like canister filter co2 or big storage.
lefty o
id bet if you put the shelf only 1/4 or 1/3 the way up you could squeeze a small tank in there and still be able to access it.
Atitagain
A couple 2x4s would probably help if your worried about it . But a good fixed shelf would do the job as well. Or screwing a plywood back with a couple cut outs for cords and what not would be the strongest option. Just try to make sure the cabinet is square (measures the same corner to corner) as your doing any of these options.
WaFfLe
Could always add plywood to stop any twisting if it feels unstable…
Colu
I would check all the screws are tight fill the tank half way up and check the stand
