I’m still in the cycling craziness 🥴myself. 5 gal plated tank with betta same day bc the pet store mislead me. And a 36gal planted tank no fish. cycling both currently. They are both sooo diffent. It’s maddening sometimes. Feel free to chat the beginners frustration with me. 😁 @Isaac M been helping me out a ton. So your not alone. Hang in there.

I want the Monte Carlo to flow from top of the rock on right and drape down. Keeping my dwarf hair grass as a carpeted front area.

My tank. Is high lighting. I do use a co2 additive in the tank as well as fertilizer. It’s not the fancy stuff just something I had gotten from Petsmart. I’m working on getting my kh & gh better as my tap is rather low in my area. Added crushed coral to get the ph up as well. I’ve only had it a few weeks so still cycling tank.

Which is better for a cascading effect the Monte Carlo or baby tears? Wanting to get something to cascade lightly carpet down my pretty rock on either side. Pic of my current tank. Just want to hear from y’all who have worked with either plant. still cycling this tank hence why the background has basically poster of fish behind it haha 😂 I couldn’t stand looking at no fishies.

@Mmiller2001 yeah I had to get ph up to get any sort of cycling going. I was going on day 15 an everything was at zero. Nothing had change. My tap kh is stupid low and gh slightly low so really soft water... Crushed coral is helping bring it up and was able to see my first ammonia spike only slight. So finally on the right track.

Thanks to @BIG GREEN and @Isaac M I’m headed in the right direction. Two weeks in and ph is finally getting somewhere and now my cycling has begun. Still would like higher ph up than 6.6 And working on that.

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. After reading and watching some videos. The coral did bring it up to 6.5 ish by last night. Will see what it look like this am and again tonight.

Thanks I was lead to believe I could do all this with my betta in the tank Thanks to my local Petamart. Like I said newbie and now after 10 days know better. But what I don’t get is how my ph stayed at 6 and nothing else rose above 0ppm for 10 days. Was I to worried about raising ph and did to many water changes? So I set up a betta tank with ph lowering sub straight bc that’s what my local petsmart had . 3 live plants. My ph battles have been horrid as my tap seems low in KH making it prince to being acidic easily. I just got crushed coral going in tank. And added a super small bubbler to break surface a bit and help bring ph up. I’m 10 days in I’ve done several water changed to try to help me bring ph back up. 0 ammonia nitrates & nitrites use api master test kit after my first strips were bad. Betta seems fine. plants doing well. Just shocked no raise in tank parameters. Am I doing anything wrong? Set up was 5 gallon tank. API quick start and stress coat. API co2 boost and fertilizer. Added fritzym 7 last Friday. And no changes.
