  1. I was wondering, because now there are only 4 cories, should I try to get more because they are more comfortable in a school? I'm kind of scared I'll get another sick one, though.
  2. Oh ok, I think it was mostly on his gills and I think I only saw it on his head once he passed. I'll make sure to watch the other cories though.
  3. Ok, I'll make sure to do that. Thanks guys for your help
  4. Oh ok, but now that I'm looking at him there is also a red patch on his head
  5. All the other cories are fine, it was only this one. The platies also seem fine.
  6. Thank you, I think this has taught me the importance of quarantining. The tank water is at 76 degrees. Here are some pictures too, I'm not sure but maybe it was ammonia poisoning? Edit: actually, from other pictures it kind of looks like red blotch disease... hopefully not though
  7. pH is 8 GH is 17 KH is 6 ammonia was between 0 and .25 a few days ago but that was because I had just added the corys. I also added prime to detoxify the ammonia nitrite 0 nitrate between 5-10 It might have been ammonia poisoning, I'm not sure. He was newer to the fish store so maybe there was a lot of ammonia when he was shipped. I also didn't quarantine the corys (please don't kill me!!! I know I should have!!). It was just that I didn't know how and didn't have time to cycle the qt tank, because my tap water has 1ppm ammonia. The other fish are a couple platies and they are hardy so I thought it would be fine.
  8. Help!! Should I try treating the other corys with meds?? I can't find what you use for red blotch disease. Is it likely they have it, as they were in the same tank as the infected cory? They seem fine right now but apparently the disease is very contagious!!
  9. The cory is starting to look weird... he was laying on his side before and now he looks like he is bleeding inside. He is also kinda pale and he won't eat (but he is also new). Do you guys know what this could be?? I don't know if he's going to make it.... He's not moving and just laying there Help!! The cory just died 😢... His belly is all red, could he have had red blotch disease?? Could the other corys have gotten it from him too??
  10. I agree, your tank looks amazing!!! (And I thought my first attempt at a planted tank was decent!!😂😁)
  11. I agree with everyone else, I have the same problem (my pH is 8.2 out of the tap and GH is around 17) and everyone here taught me not to freak out 😅 when I found out how hard and alkaline my water is, but that, especially if the fish are from your lfs they can adapt to your water.
  12. Oh ok, thanks! (I decided to name him Stubby yesterday lol)
  13. I got vita chem recently, and usually just add one drop per gallon (the instructions on the bottle) in my betta tanks. I think you just add a few drops into your fish food and let it soak for a couple minutes before you feed it to your fish? Maybe you can soak pellets or freeze dried in it if you feed those. Oh and also I think there might be a youtube video from the company on how to use it (but I'm not sure).
  14. Oh ok, I actually think I might get maracyn from aquarium co op, I found erythromycin before but I can't find it again. Do you think it would be ok if I try out using peat moss in Cupcake's tank before breaking out the meds? I really don't want to stress her out more, and I've tried both maracyn and erythromycin before, maybe I should have treated longer until she actually looked better but it mostly just stressed her out a lot.
  15. Hi, I got some corydoras recently, and just realized one of them is (kind of) missing his pectoral fins. Both of them are just little stubs, and he seems to be swimming fine I think. Should I be worried? Thanks
  16. Is it ok if I use API erythromycin instead of maracyn? It is easier to find than maracyn
  17. Oh ok, my tank is cycled, as of a few weeks to a month ago maybe??
  18. Also, if I use peat moss in my filter, is it safe when I do water changes, because the pH of the tap will be higher than in the tank?
  19. But isn't it erythromycin? A lot of sources say that erythromycin/maracyn will kill the bacteria. (Sorry I'm just really worried and don't won't Cupcake to have to go through cycling again)
  20. Oh ok, the fins look like they are getting smaller not really growing, but I'm not sure. Won't the maracyn kill the bacteria in the tank though? Also is it plant safe?
  21. Oh ok let me try attaching it instead
  22. Ok, so should I treat with maracyn and aquarium salt at the same time? If I treat her in a qt tank, should I add peat moss there too? Also, here is a picture of her eyes and fins do they look like popeye and fin rot (just to make sure)?
  23. I know this is late, but would it be fine to use peat moss to lower my pH instead of RO water? Or is that dangerous or something? It also is supposed to add tannins I think and maybe that will help reduce stress a little? I also think Cupcake has popeye and is starting to get fin rot, her fins are white and uneven at the edges. Should I treat her with medicine (in a quarantine tank)?
  24. Ooh yeah I have some of those I think, such as the Blau or green lantern and maybe the panda one? Each one of my platies is a different kind lol
  25. lol, I've never kept guppies before, they are cool but if I can I would like to get tetras. Maybe if I lower the panda cories to 5 and get 5 black neon tetras?
