Hello everyone! I see quite a bit of Siesta programs in here. Several aquascapers on YouTube mention that Siestas are not very beneficial to aquatic plants? I have the fluval Aquasky LEDs in a 32 gallon and I'm looking to combat some black beard and brown algae. The bio load is kinda heavy in it so I have stopped all in one fertilizers this week. I've been wanting to try the Siesta but haven't seen any info out there on effects of aquatic plants. I also started a 3 Gallon betta tank with the fluval Nano plant LED and have the light peak at 40% and Im noticing quite a bit of melting in the plants. I have the LED fixture set up using the L-bracket in reverse position so it's slightly higher off the surface. Please help!

My algae issues have improved significantly, after several trials these are the settings I’ve stuck with. Plants have grown and are doing great and fish are happy. I have also reduced fertilizers to liquid ferts once per week, and root tabs once per month only.

I went back to Siestas this weekend. I programmed two 6 hour periods with a 3 hr break between. Light intensity mimics that of a summer day. Hopefully there will be a good chance in the coming weeks 🙂

So siestas don’t affect plant growth? I have the Fluval Mega Flex tank and have been using the included Aquasky light. I was previously using a siesta of two 5 hour light periods, but noticed some stunted plant growth. I recently switched to a 12 hour light period without siesta, and dimmed intensities. I know have a Blackbeard and staghorn/hair algae problem on some plants. Water parameters check out good, not sure what to do anymore with light settings. My days start early mornings at 6:30am and the lights completely off at 19:30.

I think so too. Google pics for the doctor fish look completely different. Hopefully it’s a true Siamese, still quite young, but it sure does look like one.

Hi everyone! So a local Petco had these as Doctor Fish Algae eaters. I’m almost convinced they’re *true* Siamese algae eaters, but with all the variations out there and false Siamese I’m still a bit skeptical. I was told doctor fish grew larger than the Siamese. Need something that will help with black hair/staghorn algae. Thanks.

Appetite is good, no flashing on objects. A few days ago she was kinda stationary at times at the bottom (not resting on gravel) I was thinking maybe she was about to give labor to fry. Will continue to monitor.

Today one of the mollies had this white substance extending, and I’m not sure if it’s a parasite, weird poop? First time I see something like it. There are several fry in the tank that are likely hers so don’t know if it’s related to that. Appetite appears to be good. Help appreciated.

Yes, it’s gravel. 😞 I’ve been thinking of switching substrate, but maybe a little late for the established tank?

Hi y’all! So my crinium plant started to lose leaves slowly (browning at the base coming from the bulb), then appeared to get better sprouting new leaves, but then suddenly it lost the remaining leaf AND new sprouts. So I’m left with the bulb planted, and I’m wondering how do I know it’s completely dead, should I leave the bulb planted? I know it’s a slow growing plant, so how long should I wait and monitor before taking that bulb out?

I have some baby fish in the tank, some about 3 weeks old, others a little over a month…are meds like general cure, erythromycin safe for the fry? I don’t have a quarantine tank. Suspecting there’s some wasting disease going on with some of the platys. :(

That intake corner chamber is the one in question. There’s another one on the other side.

Has anyone used the coarse filter pad inside a filter intake chamber to keep fry out of the filter? Are fry still able to get inside through the larger pores? Need a solution for a Fluval mega flex…I’ve seen some filter covers for them out there, but hear those reduce filter flow rates.

Awesome! I’ve only been soaking the brine shrimp to split the cubes and have the shrimp ready for my community fish, and was wondering about soaking flake food…I tried once and noticed it quickly sank to the bottom soon after pouring it in. Thinking I’ll just presoak the freeze dried brine only.

Any thoughts on presoaking food for tropical fish? In particular flake food, and freeze dried brine shrimp? I can’t seem to find much info on this practice. Is there an effect on nutrients, does it help the fish at all? Thanks!!

Hi everyone! Speaking of ich ...I’m on day 4 of treating an ich problem...lost a couple of fish unfortunately...I hear conflicting things out there about treatment methods...I’ve been doing 25% water changes the past 3 days before dosing again, but I’ve also heard to do 48hr water changes and dosing at that time instead of daily? Two fish still have a few white spots, and I’m also concerned about harming the fish by doing too many doses. I’ve been running the filter without carbon, just using the foam and biomax media. I’m using an oldie called Ich Guard by Jungle brand.
