Hey guys ... First time posting on here or any aquatics forum ... so First off ill say I am from the UK not the US (so things might be slightly  different) but im struggling  to find the answer im looking for so here goes ... I have 3 pepered corydoras im 99% sure 2 males 1 female ... so reading all the things to do with breeding ect my "issue" ( not so much of an issue more of a inquiry/wondering) is that my cory  have between 10 to 30 eggs every 2 to 3 days and I can not find anything to suggest that is normal  😂😂 ... im am starting to get slightly  over ran with fry and not so fry fry... although this is fantastic  and I love the fact they are breeding and obviously  happy and i must be doing something right ... has anyone else came across this before ??? I dont want to change it just wanting an answer as to why ... also I dont loose many of them maybe 10 out of 100 normally because  they get little air bubbles stuck in there tiny bellies and they then float and pass 😞

Thanks in advance 🥰

Impressive! Here’s a bother list, but would teach me a good bit about your set up. If you’ve got time... Can you please describe your water parameters? (pH, KH / GH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate) The frequency and amount of your water changes? Temperature of your tank, and temp (est) of water you’re adding? Types of food you’re feeding? Frequency? Amount? Tank size?  Amount of flow? Filtration? Plants? Decor?

Our Corydoras Aeneus definitely spawn every 14-28 days. Eggs are not always fertile though. Our tank is a 20-gal long, pH is low... 6.5-7.0. Sponge filtration and small powerhead. Water change every 1x week, 50%. Few small crypts, otherwise just wood, rocks, sand, leaf litter. Some pothos roots. We feed relatively broad spectrum of goods... crushed krill flakes, bug bites, kelp flakes, live baby brine shrimp, etc.

Hey so sorry for the very very late reply. Ok so im probably going to get yelled at for this but... I dont really keep my tank "clean and perfect" so parameters I will double check when I test the water again and let you know. 🙂 as for other stuff so ... First obvious question  do you have females? I personally  have 2 males 1 female (just what I ended up with from the shop). Next I would ask how "clean" is your tank ? So my general "main" tank is where they live i have a whole handful of stuff in there (most probably dosnt matter but ill list is anyway) here goes. Livestock... 2 hillstream loachs...1 bristlenose (around 2 to 3 inch)... 2 zebra danios... 2 pearl danios... about 5 white clouds minnows and around 5 gold white cloud minnos... 5/6 harlequin rasbora... 5/6 tiger barbs ... 3 armano shrimp... 2 bamboo shrimp... some rabbit snails and nerite snails ... "pest snails"(i actually like them but I have a snail tank that the extra go to when there are to many and they are to ho for a vacationin my dads pond every week I get around 50 pest snails out of my tank some big that I missed the week before and some tiny )... 2 assassin snails ... a leopard danio ... 3 albino corydoras(3 females)... and last but not least the 3 pepered corydoras (2 male 1 female) although  there around 12 juvenile in there now from about 1cm to 1.5 inch that are eggs iv dropped while taking them out and have survived  🥰 and im sure will start breeding  anytime 😂😂. The process  i go through ... watch them spawning (fantastic to watch) and wait for the female to lay her eggs normally on the side of the glass sometimes get caught on my plants I will try to list those aswell. Then I typically  wait a day after I see them as there a little more delicate iv found the first day and can burst (although I read they wouldn't be fertilised anyway). Then I get a pipette i cut the end off and gather the eggs(i fill the pipette with tank water and scope them up under the eggs so the slide into the pipette as there very sticky there gard to suck up). I then pop those into a hang on the tank breeder box which has the tank water constantly flowing in and out of it (I will add pictures if I can) its the large fluval breeder box I use. I then leave them in there to hatch. My breeder box have java moss and malm in there and a nerite snails and some baby tiny rabbit snails (that my bigger rabbit snails had). I feed them crushed (I powder between my fingers) betta high protein micro pellets(i will add a picture for the food) and also a fish science stick on glass treat tab (again i crush to a powder) i give minimal amounts of this probably an 8th of a teaspoon maybe not even that amount it depends how many I have in there (I eyeball it 😂) I then continue that process every few days as they lay more egg still leaving the previous  ones in the breeder box. Once the biggest ones reach about 1.5 cm i transfer those to a bigger tank (different water as its a separate  tank so probably  different parameters) in that 2nd tank i have a bare bottom tank (a sprinkle of fine gravel) a hide/cave a lump of bog wood and some java moss also some "pest snails" and some rosy barbs (5 to keep the water above the corydoras moving) and a hand full of mix shrimps  about 6 i think (red and yellow). I never "clean" the tank the glass has bifilm on it and the water is actually temperate in the 2nd tank but my main tank is at 22c. And they stay and grow in there as I cant fit more in my main tank im hopefully going to sell them to my local store once big enough 🥰 . And the biggest thing I believe  in is i dont interfere to much. Once I decide to empty the breeder box into the 2nd tank I do select a few tiny corydoras  fry to stay in there as there just a little small and may get eaten my the bigger ones in the 2nd tank. I dont treat my eggs or water with anything ! I am a believe  in leave things alone and nature will find a way although  I do watcher change my main tank ( with the hang on) maybe once every week or 2 honestly  its when I remember and if I test my water and the ammonia or no2/3 is a bit high ... my main tank is ran with malm i do not gravel vac or even change my filter cartridges all that often I do squeeze out my sponges when I change the water and the "carbon cartridges" but I have never changed them since I got the filter. The filter is a fluval u2 my tank size is around 50 litres ( yes everything fits and lives happily  in there) I believe  I just have a good balance. I have biofilm and algae  spots on my glas the loachs and pleco and snails and shrimp eat it and keep onto of the build ups . I have some hair algae in there to mainly on my java fern. Plants in my main tank I have java fern... anubius... some tall grass stuff 😂 and 2 other types of plan and some java moss ( i will try and find the plant passports and send the pictures  of those. I has fine black gravel as the substrate and some pebbles( thats a new addition in the last few weeks) I do think thats about it ... maybe ... but im happy to answer  any questions if I can. Oh I have bog wood in there to ! And an air stone just thrown in😂. I will get some pictures  and upload them after this post (if it lets me) of the tank, babies , plants and water tests. Apologies for how this may read im not the best at explaining things or wording things 😂 oh I forgot to add i get around 15 to 30 eggs each batch normally  if I get there before the danios pick them of the glass. I will add pictures  of those to.

Thanks for reading and the response 🥰

Oh its also on my kitchen worktop under a old style florescent tube no idea on the watts but it covers the hang on box (hence the green lid) and most of the main tank. The old eggs are coming out today I was holding off a little as im going to empty my hang on box into my 2nd tank today ... I dont clean it I just lift it out temperature aclimate it into my 2nd tank and dump the lot in. And then hang it back on my main and left the air pump refill it and pop more eggs in I do keep the snails and java moss from there in there though.

Don't worry about not keeping your tanks clean and perfect. All my tanks have mulm build up and algae etc except my one display tank that is in my bedroom. I have found my Corydoras weitzmani spawn more often and all the more i let the tank go and get gross. There is overgrown java moss, and guppy grass in it, all kinds of leaves that have broken down and detritus. I believe that it helps the fry. They have places to hide, and plenty of microscopic foods to feed off for the first few weeks of their lives.

Hi. I have had an aquarium for 1-1/2 yrs. and now have 42  - 2 week old fry from my pair of Corydoras Aeneas.  The eggs were on a plant that i moved to a 2-1/2 gallon tank and they hatched. I change 50% water daily, and have good filtration. I am feeding them Hikari First Bites.

My question is that  the fry are getting larger and I was wondering  can I continue with this tank or what size tank I need to raise them to three months old which is when my local fish store will take them for credit.

Hey congratulations  on your fry 🥰🥰 i am no expert but I keep my fry in the little 2 liter hang on till there is a good handful of them maybe anywhere from 40 to 100 and then when they are about 1cm nose to tail I move them to the 30 litre  tank I have ( I think its 30 although I only keep it maybe 2 3rds full) and they then live out in there but I have to pick my timing as I keep putting eggs in the hang on as they grow to I just sold my first batch to my local store today 😍😍😍😍 super happy 45 gone and they was all around 2 cm to maybe 3/4 from different  lays and hatchs ... you can see the tanks on the pictures  i have ... my tanks are over stocked when they grow so glad I could sell them toady as it makes room for more fry hehe I would probably  leave them in there for a while yet as they should be fine ... again im no expert  but my way seems to be working even if it is wrong 😂 i believe  2.5 gallons is around 5 litres so way bigger then my 2 litre/0.5 gallon  hang on so I would say for now your fine but you will see your tests spike if there's to much in there and as far as iv learnt corydoras are pretty bomb proof to ... I dont clean or water change my tank every day normally  once a week if I remember  if im honest and my hang on has no filtration either just the air pipe pushing the tank water through and trickles back out ... I hope this has helped and im more then happy to answer  anything else or pictures  🙂

Good luck with the fry ! Oh and when you feed them take a glance at there bellies some of the food i feed is bright pink and you can see it 😂🥰
