Discus Don
I have what appears to be an off white fungus growing on glass, substrate and wood. Any idea what it is and more importantly how to get rid of it.
Mitch_ScruffyCityAquatics
Sounds like biofilm. Is it a fresh setup? Biofilm isn’t harmful. It will go away with patience. Most likely tank inhabitants will eat it.
Discus Don
It's not biofilm. This tank has been running for over a year. This stuff kinda looks like 2 dimensional cauliflower. It grows in a spot. Dies off

Daniel
Whoa! That is pretty cool! Definitively a Mycelium (fungus) of some kind. I bet it ultimately won't be able to grow well underwater.
Discus Don
It shows up, grows for a few days, disappears and pops up some where else. It had to come in on a live plant
Discus Don
Shot it with some excel in a syringe. All that did was put it in the spore stage.
Pete
I wonder if Ich-X will take care of it? It certainly works for fungus on fish.
Streetwise
I have seen that on rotting logs in the Vermont woods. Edited December 22, 2020 by Streetwise
Discus Don
I tried a fish fungus cure. Didn't phase it. It doesn't seem to harm fish or plants. I think it's either just hope it runs its course. Or take the whole tank down and start over.
Hobbit
Have you tried hydrogen peroxide? Get a pipette and squirt the H2O2 directly on it. Just make sure no fish, shrimp, or snails are nearby.
Discus Don
Everything has been taken out (except substrate) and soaked in hydrogen peroxide. I can kill it, but like all fungus when it gets stressed it sends out spores.
Discus Don
I've stepped up water changes, along with zapping it with excel I think I'm winning in the long run
