Beach Cruiser
Is it delayed gratification? Fighting water parameters? Livestock challenges? For me it's not having a definitive answer/resolution to plant compatibility with tank conditions. Every parameter i can currently test for is supposedly near perfect for what i want to grow, yet some "super easy, grows like a weed even in a neglected dungeon" plants simply just will NOT grow for me, floating or planted. I'm an engineer/fix it/very handy guy & not having answers KILLS me! Stoopid weeds. 😝 Secondary is not being able to try all the cool fish i don't have room to accommodate. 😍 What frosts your cookies? 2
Whitecloud09
Having an issue in the tank that is causing issues and hurting my fish. And killing too. But you can’t find the cause!! 😤 lol 1
HelplessNewbie
Delayed gratification, for sure. Have never been patient, but, I am trying to change that about myself. Keeping fish and plants is my challenge to myself. Edited September 28 by HelplessNewbie
Beach Cruiser
Ugh, that sucks! I've been super lucky there. The only casualties i can recall in the last several years have been new Otos who suffered from the usual capture/starved conditions.
Mississippi fish guy
Dirt in the water column and algae. There are also so many other various fish I can’t keep because I’m out of space and four fish aquariums, one live food culture, and one breeding tank is pushing the limit for a 16 year old.

I do fine filter floss in the cannisters, intake skimmers & don't keep any known poop factories (gold fish, oscars, big plecos, etc). A small bit of gda on rockscape i don't mind for the snails & Otos...
Justnotrook
I hate it when I spill saltwater all over the carpet. I also hate it when mystery snails crawl 10 feet away from the tank and make you think they died. 2
karanit
I wish I could test for more stuff including illnesses. Maybe like a microscope or something?
JoeQ
Planting/scaping, I never know where to stick stuff. And when I do find a good spot, its usually a project to get plants planted without them floating up a few times.... The other thing that grinds my gears is unruly fish that eat my plants when I don't feed them enough, or uproot plants while in territorial disputes!

I hate when I am trying to scape a tank, and i put everything where I think I should put it, then over the week I end up changing it a million times LOL. Sometimes just cannot decide right? Making up my mind is so hard for me in planning and scaping a tank.
Beach Cruiser
I've used the Scape.it website to help visualize different layouts. It works pretty good on a proper computer but was a little wonky on my cellphone. Totally free for the basic level & kinda fun to play with... The words "ohhh FFS, just stick that #&*%ing s*&+ somewhere and move on with your day!" are often heard before that choice is made! 😂 1

Exactly my biggest problem as well!!! Before that it was an Alpha diamond tetra throwing around his mating dominance. PonyPlantedTanks
Algae💩mainly stupid cyano! Also test kits not matching up - aka nitrate on a test strip showing 20 and 40 on a liquid test kit. Drives me nuts bc I don’t know which to trust! Wanting bigger tanks… but also wanting smaller tanks… but they have to be rimless and low iron because it’s fAnCiEr🤓

I actually took a time lapse once of one that crawled out 10 feet away from the tank and stayed there for around 3 hours. I put him in a temporary tank in the time lapse about 4 months ago. Sadly I don’t have the footage.
Ninjoma
Fish health is the only really frustrating thing for me. Every other failure just feels like a fun learning experience.

My daughter has instructions, if she sees a dried up snail on the floor, she’s supposed to throw it back in the tank. Even when they look completely dry, they usually come back.
Tazalanche
When I started out (decades ago), it was trying to chase water parameters for fish that were not suited for my local water supply. Now I know stability is usually better than chasing that number. For the situations where the parameters just are not compatible, I don't consider getting those fish anymore.
Guppysnail
Airstones/jetlifters clogging. I have a lot of tanks. Many now run only on jetlifter sponges. Every day is a cleaning day 😖. By the time I get the entire way around the room the first ones I cleaned are slowing and clogging.

It’s just such a nuisance to need to do one almost every day.
