Whitecloud09 Posted March 22 Share Posted March 22 My Java fern (the new Java fern I got) is brown and I think I probably because of the rhizome not being open from the roots? I know that the rhizome can’t be be covered but I tried to get the roots untangled but couldn’t. Why is this happening? I dose with easy green. @Mmiller2001, advice? While I agree with @FLFishChik that it may just need time, I've recently learned that some sellers pack up Java fern by tying multiple rhizomes together, on the assumption that you the buyer will snip off the thread and separate them. MattyM Posted April 3 Share Posted April 3 My LFS sells them like that (tied together) and I never had any luck. I bought some beautiful looking java fern online that was potted in rock wool. It looked amazing for a couple weeks, but as it adjusted to my water it started getting those black spots and producing new shoots.
