Chick-In-Of-TheSea
Oh man, so as an extra precaution I took the log out and sanded the inside. There was a lumpy thing inside so I wanted to remove that, just in case. And… chemical smell. 🫤 So I can’t trust it. He was agitated, swimming jerkily back and forth when I removed it. And on top of that his catappa leaf finally decided to sink and now his bubble nest is gone. Look how confused he is. He started pacing at the top. So I took a similar log which has been in my main tank forever and I gave that to him. It doesn’t float, but I think it will do for the moment. Ruins my scape, but I will give him something else later, maybe I will make it with pvc and suction cups. Chick-In-Of-TheSea
I took a little break and went back to see how he was doing. Well, he won’t be deterred because he started another bubble nest, this time on top of the leaf. But before he gets carried away I wanted to cut it so it was no longer shading the plants. Sorry little dude. He did an impressive dive-bomb into the top of that log though while I was there.

Was putting so much hard work into it

Was putting so much hard work into it Better to get it situated at 3 bubbles vs having to mess with it w/ 100 bubbles on it. Then he’d REALLY be disappointed! Did a 20% water change on the tank just in case that floating log leached anything. I really didn’t like how that thing smelled. Kinda like spray paint. Ugh.. I haven’t bought any commercial decor in awhile. I guess I won’t anytime in the near future. I saw some people hang a coconut hut on the wall for their bettas. Might look into that since it’s a natural item. LFS has them. I just need a hook or something to hang it.

Chick-In-Of-TheSea
It’s important to exercise bettas so they don’t get bored, but only for super short periods of time (5 min or less) so that they don’t get stressed. There are products on the market for this such as mirrors or flare sticks. I used this fish decoration. Let’s see how friendly Geppetto is. Chick-In-Of-TheSea
Not a lot to report today. Water change day. I even went the extra mile and put the end of the siphon hose into the bucket this time. 1

I usually let mine run on the floor and have a slip and slide party 🎉

Chick-In-Of-TheSea
Erin has been telling me about her BNP for at least a year but every time I’ve visited I have NEVER seen him. I even had her buy mopani wood for him, and she hadn’t even seen him visit it. Just as I was about to call her a big fat liar about having a BNP, last night she texted me his pic. Here he is! She said he’s been coming out more & more lately, but when she walks by the tank he quickly hides. ALSO he was a tankmate of Geppetto, and I wonder if Geppetto was mean to him. She said she NEVER saw any ill will between them but nevertheless, he seems to be more comfortable now. I think it was a win-win for everyone that Geppetto was rehomed. The BNP is a cute little guy. Chick-In-Of-TheSea
Geppetto’s tank is developing some nice algae now so Kratos can come over soon. That waits til my day off so I can closely observe. Not a lot of Kratos’ body is exposed when he moves around and he is is a slow mover as well. Plus, well, spikes! So I think we have a good chance of success. I reduced the light time for now until Kratos moves in. Chick-In-Of-TheSea
I worry Geppetto is a little bored since I took away his log, and his leaf with the bubble nest sank. So I gave him this crazy piece of anacharis. He was instantly intrigued and he even created a little game of squeezing between the leaves.
