xXInkedPhoenixX
Yesterday I released some floaters into the Dragon House tank and the Medieval Tank. I got a mix of Dwarf Water Lettuce and Red Root Floaters. I decided not to mix them at least for now and thought about which tank should get what. I thought that since Invictus is already red, that the Water Lettuce would be best so as not to compete with his color. Then in the same vein of thought since White, released today and now known as Valere would have the Red Root Floaters so as not to fight with his coloring. Anyway, ever since I saw Water Lettuce I've loved the roots. They are so pretty and it seems fish really like them. I like Red Root Floaters. I tried them before but I suspect they didn't work out when I put them in the Parent tank because there was too much surface aggitation. These are much more mature than the ones I had before too so hoping they'll be better for the tank! I've ordered some more from the seller since I really like their specimens. It's fun trying new plants even when they fail. I've been trying very hard to keep this tiny piece of AR for a couple of years. It's in Dragon House too and seems to be perking up. I'm crossing my fingers! It's never going to be near as pretty as those tanks that have co2 but it's worth a try in my books. xXInkedPhoenixX
So I was impressed with the floaters (dwarf water lettuce and red root floaters) I got from an Etsy seller they didn't appear to have any pests and were in good health so I got some more. Since they're not far from me they get to me quickly. I'm probably overpaying since I could probably get some cheap or free from a local fish club member but you do also get what you pay for sometimes! Anyway, I floated them in a container until I can get to them later: Morning feedings are always cool, which I didn't have to rush through most of them due to having to go to work. All the fish are excited in the morning. Punk the Bolivian paces the front glass and wiggles. All the Bettas are typically front and center. Guppies and Endlers usually too. Caught a couple of cute ones of Koianu: (action shot as he front faces/wiggles) I also got to see Curlyque formerly in my CPD tank which was decommissioned and replaced by Dragon House. She seems to be doing well despite now being in a warmer tank (80 degrees because of Invictus the Betta). She has some good new growth too: Also a treat is to see Kirby the Hillstream Loach. Oftentimes they are near the granite hide and I have to be very careful during morning clean up. I used a baster to take out old bottom feeder food - Kirby despite being tan and the granite being gray the lighting in the Flex isn't great so very cammoflaged. I've pinched them a couple of times in the past, thankfully no injures. Kirby is super fast. They were inside granite house when cleaning and zipped right to the outside of the hide. Kirby is stinkin' cute. Edited February 1, 2023 by xXInkedPhoenixX Typos suck. 3
xXInkedPhoenixX
Today was maintenance day. Did a thorough inspection of the Medieval tank with Valere in. I had to pull one of the grass Guppies I got because someone (unwitnessed but I'm blaming the Betta) trimmed his poor tail. So he's in QT with the other old Guppies in the Accidental tank, until Betta Valere settles OR Guppy gets better. I had to do some rearranging, re-anchoring and some vacuuming today but it's coming along nicely. I'm really happy with the Monte Carlo, it still seems to want to do well in the tank and there's lots of little off shoots: They're growing into the "pathway" but you know, I think I'm ok with that. As long as it doesn't make its way over to the "ruins" I think it will be good. I'm also super happy with the Repens, it seems happy and haven't had any of it die off like some of the Monte: I added more Red Root Floaters that came from the Etsy seller this week: Valere is doing pretty well I observed him for a long while today. I've not seen any outright aggression but he must have been a bit nippy at first since the one Guppy has a shortened tail. The other Guppies I've been closely monitoring, one has a small tear another seems like they had a small trim- the other two are fine. If they get worse I might have to pull the Guppies. We'll see, maybe Valere has settled down: I have some hair algae but working on it. Actually there's a place I kind of like it, on the Arch. It took over the Java a little. I've pulled some of it out- but it gives the arch an aged/abandoned look: I like the other short green algae (above) and how the Monte is rooting. This tank is becoming a real beauty to look at. I'm super satisfied with it. Edited February 3, 2023 by xXInkedPhoenixX 5

Honestly I thought they were made of metal that has lead in it so no, unless they've since changed which is entirely possible. On 2/5/2023 at 10:24 AM, Odd Duck said: I’d be happy with a sword. I'd just likely have to coat it with something aquarium safe. 1
xXInkedPhoenixX
Things are going well in the Medieval tank. I am having a little bit of an issue with the Nerites knocking some of the java moss off the rocks and the Archway. I'll have to do some adjusting during tank maintenance. I just hope they don't do the same thing on the spiderwood tree. I think Valere is doing much better with his "aggression". I'll have to observe more on my days off but I think he's over chasing the Guppies so I may return the tattered one back to the tank to be with his buddies. I think he's realized he is the big fish and they will get out of his way. That being said, he's been making bubble nests in several places in the tank. This is one of them, on the dark side of the tank. I knew the Subwassertang shelf would be a hit, I catch the Guppies up there resting from time to time but since Valere moved it he's on it more than he's in his tunnel I think. anyway, during feeding this morning this is what I saw: It's a big one, so he's been busy! Chick-In-Of-TheSea
Ok! All caught up. The algae settling into the cracks of the arch looks really cool. So, your tank has a lid, right? I’m curious to see what floaters are doing ok with a lid. I’ve heard that some floaters do not like condensation dripping on top of them and they die. But I do think Geppetto would enjoy some floaters.

So far the red rooters are ok. I don't see a lot of die off so far. The dwarf water lettuce in the dragon tank is struggling a little but I'm not so sure it's the condensation that is getting them (have been watching their tops and neither the lettuce or the rooters are wet on top) I think it was more the aggitation which I've turned down so I'm watching them and hoping they're springing back. I'm also taking into consideration they were moved from someone else's environment to mine.

But I do think Geppetto would enjoy some floaters. They’re not usually fond of a tightly closed tank, but if there’s enough air circulation and they’re not directly under a drip point, they will usually do OK. I’ve grown red root floaters in some rather tightly covered tanks with great success and sometimes they’ve done very poorly and it’s not always obvious why. Even with airstone spatter, sometimes. This pic was pretty tightly covered running the water level pretty close to the glass and a sponge filter just to the left of this pic. You can see the lighter green strip from the shade from the black lid hinge and you can see how high the water is to the rim. I’ve got another pic of the same tank with even more growth. I’m fighting duckweed in this tank currently (how does that happen?), so all other floaters are removed for now, but will be going back in once I’m convinced the duckweed is gone. HOB just there on the right, sponge on the left, circles keeping surface agitation minimal. 1
