@Chick-In-Of-TheSea good question, not really sure if it's an issue or not to be honest, I've picked her up, that area is really solid- my wonder is if she chipped her shell somehow or it's growth. The bladders are stupid healthy looking and other than where you see that whiteness she's a good olive on the other side. My other Nerites don't have shell issues so I'm not sure if it's a water problem and no, I haven't put any cuttle or wondershell yet. One issue I have with the Nerites is they won't eat commercial foods, I drop snail food in for the bladders from time to time.

Fortunately @xXInkedPhoenixX they don’t have to eat the cuttlebone or wondershell. The cuttlebone is a slow dissolve (it will float at first) and the wondershell is quicker and provides other minerals besides calcium. I’ve used both and neither changed my pH. I don’t use a whole shell or cuttlebone, just a little chunk at a time.

My Fluval Flex9 is never ending entertainment.

I usually check for Kirby the Hillstream Loach every morning and/or evening- typically they perch along the glass, mostly on the front. As a species you can't get much cooler than one you can see "under the hood". I love to watch their little mouth move when scraping along the glass- and see their little heart beat.

Guppies and Endlers are just little clowns- here are 2 of my Endlers and 1 Guppy (all males no reproduction in this tank please!). They add so much color, comedy and interest to this tank. Seriously little water dogs...

Tank cleaning. Sometimes it takes me longer than I predict because I enjoy it. Two hours to clean 5 tanks and 4 QT.

Koianu Reefs always trying to get my full attention- he got his tank vacuumed. The prefilter sponge keeps falling off his HOB- this creates more flow. He acts as if he can't fight it sometimes and other times he sits there mid stream. Little clown. 2067978159_koianuoc7.jpg.f0d00188814da8543a00db7c4685f71e.jpg

Punk the Bolivian Ram had a couple of gallons sucked out of his tank and I had to replant several stems of Ludwigia Super Red as he seems to be the culprit that uproots them, though I've never witnessed it. He looks rather guilty. punk2.jpg.71c4c94fdea61e5aa6bc5ba82a5e5bce.jpgpunk.jpg.c78af2a8c1fca0f124d4d354e561aaea.jpg

Tank maintenance. Took some time to check in with the residents. Never as much as I would like though!

In the Parent Tank with all my Otos are a smattering of Nerites- this one I don't see all the time, this is Knock- they are at work on a piece of spiderwood today, you can see some decent darker shell growth since they've been in here...984002404_KnocktheNerite10132022.jpg.e9aa2368c20695b58d6e219e77ffd070.jpg

Then I moved over to the Accidental Oto tank (the grow out) with resident Betta Koianu. Does it look to you like he can see his reflection? It does to me. I mean if I were that pretty I'd look at myself all the time too. 🙂 1928259439_koianuOct132022.jpg.62f7c38a7e1517b57e4c83e05aed47a9.jpg

1985485039_Koianu101322.jpg.1e4b8e6efe833ada9fe6c1e1d213e3cd.jpg

In Ember House (Fluval Flex9) resident Nerite BFG (the only Nerite I have big enough she can't escape) was scraping the glass for me (and decorating as per usual): 1413780041_BFGoct1322.jpg.3af2b7a26f56d39090007c004bae1b41.jpg

The Ember Tetras were shy today but I got snapshots of the never shy male Endlers, this is Torchlight and Phoenix: 1113585663_endlers101322.jpg.6377a5dca3d1c5f9a7749b59b1bbb8b5.jpg

And this is Drogon and NEL (Never Ending Light- the all silver):

Last but not least is the Angry Man tank, Punk the Bolivian Ram is the reigning King of the tank. He rules the bottom half of it anyway- runs off the Black Neons or Harlequins (but mostly the Neons they're more apt to wander off on their own and not stick with the others) when they get out of line. He pretty much likes to lurk in dark corners as you see here, but don't let that fool you he loves to come up to the front of the tank and pace during morning feedings!1043888979_PunkOct1322.jpg.80a5cb93e02db22f0ee6e496e511bab4.jpg

These are those Harlequin Rasboras and Black Neons. The Harlequins I got at the same time as my first Otos (of which there is only 1- as 6 of my original 7 died. So they are my oldest fish- I love them so much- they are so pretty and they nearly always face the same direction together unless they're changing direction. I wish I had a longer tank so they could do that more- hopefully someday! The Black Neons are doing well with the Harlequins who were the original residents of this tank until the Harlies had to move from the Parent Tank for all the Otos to move in and so they wouldn't eat Oto babies. All of them get along and do very well together. Usually people like to get fish that stand out from their decor (like a red fish on a green background) but I actually really enjoy that Punk and all of his friends nearly blend in with the colors of this tank- it's so peaceful...1883447080_rasborasandneons101322.jpg.8026952edcbd79cbc0ce3e9d3810981a.jpg

Today I did some plant maintenance in my bare bottom 10 gallon otherwise named the Accidental Oto Tank. Currently no Otos (as it is a grow out tank) but just Koianu Reefs as previously mentioned here and 3 Nerites. Koianu is coming out of his proverbial shell- while he's been very active since I put him in the tank he has ceased his continuous patrolling of the back wall and now is all over the place- I think he's discovered the secret of how to navigate the flow of the Aqueon Quietflow 10 as he's not being pushed around by it anymore- if anything he seems to consider it a challenge. I've yet to get a perfect picture of him but he kept photobombing today when I was trying to get a pic of an Anubias. 1472460929_Anubias92022.jpg.2989085ba40086634b0b7736aa6f3c67.jpg685475395_Koianu922.jpg.693a87be3f5c6dafd9af3ee7a8c9dabb.jpg

I'm also getting used to this new phone of mine....after 7 years with my lovely Note 8 - it fell to its death unexpectedly. So this newfangled camera I've yet to be satisfied with. Koianu is looking blue in some spots where he is white and I'm not sure why. *shrug*

Anyhow, if you look closely you can see my lovely little Anubias is blooming and has several new chutes as well. 1544529118_Anubiasbud92022.jpg.e64a033fdb32abce9fbb6a1fb0e7e078.jpg

Sorry for all the reflection. That tank pretty much flat faces a large slider door. Anyhow just goes to show you that even in bare bottom tanks plants thrive.

Punk, my Bolivian Ram is thriving in The Angry Man tank. Every time I sit and watch him he just gets more beautiful- but he remains moody. I suppose he's aptly named afterall....1617499704_Punkdos92022.jpg.d7976b63285abf2dceff7548d41294a8.jpg1503539376_Punk92022.jpg.c541840cf283fd6d685a153673406beb.jpg

@Guppysnail check out @xXInkedPhoenixX Bolivian Ram. His name is Punk.

So today I had to put a divider in the Accidental Oto tank- a 10 gallon grow out tank that Koianu the Betta keeps occupied when there are no Oto babies. It worked out great for the baby Otos- they are in a much bigger space compared with the floating breeder they occupied in the Parent Tank. Koianu however....none too pleased....

  • 2 weeks later...

Punk likes his jungle at the bottom of the tank. You know, most people get fish that stand out from their decor- in the Angry Man tank I'm going for full on camouflage....it's like a tiger in the tundra, only different...

Feeding time in the @xXInkedPhoenixX house this morning. Feeding the Flex9 aka Ember House where my GloBetta Serket has recently moved in from this thread:

A COLOSSAL IDIOT walks into a pet store....(an illustrated tail - intentional misspelling- of woe)

She's doing really well, her personality is super chill. Beside her co-hort the Hillstream Loach Kirby she's one of the calmest in the tank (well honestly the Ember Tetras are chiller than either of them). I'm really happy about her getting along here. She comes to the top of the tank just like the Guppies and Endlers do though when it's time to eat! This is the view from above:

1367760197_Serketandtheguppies11322.jpg.654502dbd256f41c6a8a2452e17060f2.jpg

HOWEVER, this is not that exciting when compared to what I found in the Angry Man tank! Today I found a BABY BLACK NEON!!!! Clearly they have been here a while because they are too big to be eaten and are now out in the open- so they've been hiding (smartly) up until now. Less than half an inch long looks just like its large parents. This is so amazing! I never thought my Neons would breed anything!

Here is a 14 second video: https://photos.app.goo.gl/dfeQkQYjVJSYSMqo6

407662364_babyblkneon11322.jpg.2a46e133fd390a24495c3844d65f4b86.jpg1250862440_thebabyblkneon11322.jpg.c8ac21bf6823180f8dfb1b10e339cf2d.jpg959747657_1babyblackneon11322.jpg.2552046a78f374ee6e7b44b9183f0461.jpg2122157181_ababyblkneon11322.jpg.0922e9d9986a4fae5f564b9f06351b8a.jpg69491762_babyblackneon11322.jpg.6ab2122d7c00f5aaeb32d39938ab2edb.jpg

Little fish are really hard to catch a defined picture of since they move so much (and no thanks to the camera that takes too long to focus when compared with a speedy creature). It didn't help that I was trying to take pics while the little one was catching frozen brine with the adults. I was thrilled to see this though- it's a cute little thing.

Today I had a chance to visit Mum's house and check in on Zaggi, formerly of this thread:

A COLOSSAL IDIOT walks into a pet store....(an illustrated tail - intentional misspelling- of woe)

Things are going well for her per my Mum, says she ultimately chose the name suggested by @Minanorabecause it reminded her of her friend Maggie from many years ago and she liked the twist on it. I asked her if she continues to harass the Guppies and she said no- so that's awesome- but she is a pig, stole the African Dwarf Frog's food from Mum's tweezers while I was there. Mum's tank is a nice green jungle (looks greener than it really is in the picture):354250574_mumstank11322.jpg.8cc0cefc261fe88472ee9fd0bf4be147.jpg

The heater she got is apparently doing its job and everyone seems real happy here. Zaggi appears to be thriving, this is very good to see after her ordeal at the pet store. Mum says she's taken under the bridge as her turf.

You can see though- she waits at the food dish.... 😆

Hows the accidental Oto breeding going?

Was spending a little time with tanks today. Packed up 4 baby Oto I sold today (I posted it on my Accidental Oto Keeper page) so Koianu is solo again in his tank but I haven't removed the QT wall. Not sure if I want to. I have 20 Oto babies in a floating breeder and they're still too small to add to the grow out but it may only be 2 possible 3 weeks before I can add them. I'll be thinking on it. He's been a very good sport about it.

Meanwhile in the Angry Man tank....

I spotted 2 of my 3 wonderful Horned Nerites (Lock, Shock & Barrel) plotting along with their bladder snail friends on the plants: 187252315_lockshockorbarreltwo11112022.jpg.e3e166f70a12e88a98fe00ab31cff999.jpg

My baby Black Neon is doing good still but wasn't around when I was taking pictures (saw them earlier though), however it looked like the Harlequins and the Neons were having a momentary standoff: 1705143114_standoff111122.jpg.ed69637e9d2267b726cfc35eb5f84f65.jpg
