Okesa
All this snail talk has me wondering, does anyone have a guess as to what kind of snails these might be? I live in Japan, and as far as I know they were in the gravel that a science teacher scooped out of the river for the fish tanks. They are quite good at reproducing - we definitely have multiple generations happening.
Atitagain
Just a guess because I’ve never kept them but MTS =Malaysian trumpet snails
laritheloud
They look like a type of hornshell snail to me. Maybe related to pleurocera canaliculatum? Not exactly the same but the shell shape is similar. Yours do not look like Malaysian Trumpets to me. 1
mynameisnobody
I’m definitely no snail expert, but they most similarly look like Malaysian Trumpet snails. They burrow in the substrate so it would make sense that they were introduced via a scoop of substrate. They look like they may be a different variant/sp. Biotope Biologist
They look like Semisulcospira libertina which we call Libertina freshwater snail. Native to Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and China. Without the snail in hand I cannot make a positive I.D, however these are common in most freshwater sources 3
H.K.Luterman
Just for the sake of comparison, here's some of my Malaysian Trumpets. I agree that they are not a match.

They are apparently the most common Japanese freshwater snail, so if they really did come free with the free river sand, this species would make sense! Thank you for the ID! 🙂
