Banana plant care

Just got a new banana plant from my LFS. How can I make thrive and start Lilly pads!

I thought someone else that can give a more definite answer would respond by now, but I guess not. 

To me, the plant appears to be rotting and will not survive. They're supposed to be a light green and plump to the tough, your photo looks as if it is squishy and brown.

That one looks pretty hopeless but if it is firm it has a chance.....

i agree with the other posters, its not looking good for that plant. how do you get it to thrive once its at that point, i have no idea.

So, I kind of have the opposite problem, I have a banana plant with healthy looking leaves but its' banana's just fell off.  Do they regrow "bananas" or do the leaves just keep growing?  I know I have divided the plant by just cutting a leaf off and letting it sprout roots by the oldest cutting I have is about a month maybe two old.

@Kilrkitty08I have a banana plant the completely seperate from its leaves. Basically was left with just the bananas plus roots that had grown. After a few weeks, it's back to having tons of new growth.
