Weird fungus

Hi guys hope everybody is well just curious if somebody can shed light on to me on what this might be small 10 gallon tank I started up and I put this piece of wood in there I got from a local fish shop the tank has been up for about a week with just water and lights nothing else and this piece of wood

Hi there, likelyhood is it's just biofilm/mold/fungus and not harmful just the nature of wood. It eventually goes away on its own.

Thank you Bunch for the input if I start putting some live plants or maybe a couple of fish in there is it going to be harmful

No, if it's what I think it is it's not going to be harmful my wood has had that before when it's new- but if it bothers you- you can take it out and scrub it off.

My spiderwood gets grey funky film on it all I do is pull it off because that comes off in clumps.

Oh, and if yours is a new tank, sounds like it is, that is a common occurence. It, like I said, often goes away on its own.

I agree also if you intend to have snails or shrimp they they will HAPPILY and greedily gobble it down. 😁

Ahhh - the dreaded driftwood biofilm!  Completely normal and harmless.  Totally gross looking, feeling, and smelling! 😂

The only thing I have to add is that my nerite snails tackled my DBF issue much faster than my shrimp did...if you can handle the possibility of their white, dotty, superglue-like eggs popping up in your tank, they will become your tank MVP's (in my opinion and experience)! 😜👍
