Im setting up a 40 breeder in a couple months and im planning on breeding kribensis, they are easier to breed and more hardy then apistos so that might work out for you.
also you could have some top dwellers and they probably wont eat fry plus the kribensis will protect the fry.
im in Canada but the coldest my basement tank gets is only about 70 and when I get my living room tank setup it will definitely always be above 70 so im guessing most fish will do fine at those temps.
I saw @Cory's video on how most fish don't need a heater and his other video at goliad farms and they have temps as low as 65, I get that most fish species we keep will do well in average home temps but which species should I consider adding heat to?
@nabokovfan87yeah I would be using a diffuser but I was just wondering if I should use a wave maker I have to diffuse it. so this helped, I really just want enough co2 for the plants to not run out because im just growing java fern and anubias. and Ive really noticed a difference in the plant health when I have co2 on the tank vs not. and I already have a co2 system, also Im trying to save as much as I can with this tank that's why I wanted to do a sponge filter.
I was wondering if I could use co2 with a sponge filter? would it get diffused evenly and well? what would be the best placement? should I just get a hob? I also have an extra wave maker I could use to disperse the co2.
hey I was just looking and my LFS sells their own branded water conditioner that's half the price of the one I'm using (prime) does it matter what brand I use/ is one more beneficial or higher quality?
I'm planning on doing a DIY all in one filter on the side of my 40g breeder but I was wondering how do I calculate how to make the intake slits so I get enough water moving through the filter but not so big it sucks up fish?
Also if anyone has experience with making an all in one filter please give me any tips or info you think will help.
Thanks,
I might be a nerm because every time I pass a yard with rocks I think "oh that would be some nice hardscape" or when I see a big planter I think "mini pond"
@Cory@TOtrees I was looking at my tank and i just thought all the other plants are growing really well so do you think they are steeling the nutrients from the crypts? I have elodea, s repens, java fern, Christmas moss, anubias and salvinia.
I've seen @Cory grow crypts in inert sand with no light and no ferts but when my tank has a pretty good light, liquid ferts, root tabs and fluval stratum they seem to grow less dense and slower in 11 months then @Cory can in 2 months can someone tell me why?
watch this video @9:12

these are my crypt almost a year old and I don't get it, they Aren't that dense and its taken forever for this one pot to grow in also I'm getting these holes in the leaves even though I'm dosing ferts and extra potassium.
how do I breed white cloud minnows? do the eggs stick to plants or are they like danio eggs? should I have floating plants or plants at the bottom of the tank? do they have to be cold to breed? any tips?
