Wondering, because the time is coming to when the tank gets delivered AND I want to start keeping an eye out for a perfect piece.....Is there any wood that is hard enough to not put too much debris in the water? I realize any wood is going to eventually decompose and because of that IF I put wood in the new tank I will likely only put one large piece in. Any tips on types of wood to look for?

I’ve got a nice looking branch on my apple tree if you’re interested 😂

You can always hose down pieces of wood to get the worst debris out and then gravel vac the rest. (If you can reach in as big a tank as that!)

  2. Todays been an eventful day. Starting off with cutting my finger on some skis and having to get a jab because they were all rusty making me miss double French 🫠. I’m not all too sad about missing out on the wonders of Renaissance littérature.

After getting home from school 🏫, I found about 50 Cory eggs stuck to the side of their breeding tote! I’m thinking that a combo of a faulty air pump and 20 Celsius temps are the trick. Basically imitating natural rain.

Final bit of good news, my glowlight fry have finally started to take off! One-handed Sera micron is on the agenda tomorrow morning!
    Stay fishy friends!

in the ACO member talk on cories the speaker mentioned using Alder Cones to prevent egg fungus, the i expect the alder cone tannins would be beneficial to a naturally blackwater fish like glowlight tetras, and would serve the same anti-fungal effect.

I’d already put an IAL in after the parents spawned for that purpose… they were probably just plain old infertile! Nice new profile pic btw. 😄

    Take off:

club friend is bringing me more jaca moss to the auction so I can get some more moss rocks made for them to have lots over spots to scatter there eggs in. I feel like the danios may be the first ones I actually take more of an on hands approach to breeding. The same club friend bringing the moss is who I got the danios from. So if I have time to pick his brain on breeding them at the auction I will

KeepingFishSimples using the mop-in-container method and is getting great results with those guys.

It took 17 months, but I've finally passed all of my CPA exams. My husband asked how I'd like to celebrate.  I reply nonchalantly, "Eh.. probably start setting up a 55 gallon tank" (not rly making eye contact with him...lol..."testing the waters", if you will).  He smiled & laughed so I'm taking that as a green light.  💚

    Congrats!!! 🍾

  6. Did you have much success with the chilis?

I made one of these setups once for chili rasboras. However, I did not keep it running long (can't remember the reason why).

If I remember correctly, this was the basic gist of the setup. The uptake was kind in the middle of two partitions, with the floor/bottom of that being sponge.

I believe both the light and the direction of the flow is meant to get the tiny fry to the other side. Encapsulating the uptake in it's own chamber keeps the fry from getting sucked up.

I got this concept from the 'Barb Whisperer' video that is linked earlier in this thread (saw that a while back). Can't attest that this works, but the fella in the video seemed to have good results.

I found that concept really interesting. Do you think it would be possible to build without glass & stuff?

So in the aquarium setting the biggest issue with not getting any babies is not removing the eggs fast enough (or in my case at all)

You definitely want to remove the eggs, especially if there’s any tank mates. KeepingFishSimple just released a vid on Cory breeding:
