  1. Hello everyone,

I'm struggling with preventing my angel fish eggs from getting fungus. I've lost the last two batches of eggs because of this issue. I know methylene Blue can help. I've also read that hydrogen peroxide will help as well. How often do I dose the methylene blue or the hydrogen peroxide? Everyday?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

  2. Hell everyone! Long time, no post (on my part). I have a question for the collective mind. I am attending my first swap meet in March and plan on selling some fish and plants. How should I go about pricing my fish and plants? I asked another group and the answer I got was "Less than retail" which is helpful, but I'm still not sure what to do. So for example, if a swordtail is about $3 retail, should I price mine for $2? See what I'm saying? Help a confused fishkeeper out!

    Thanks in advance, everyone

  3. @StellaI used to go to MTSU and would run up to Aquatic Critter fairly frequently. I can't say enough good things about that store. They are an amazing local fish store. The quality of advice, the quality of care they give to the fish, the massive selection...I could go on and on...Have you been there recently?

  4. Can anyone point me to some resources regarding deep sand beds? I have watched Cory's videos where he visits Ocean Aquarium and mentions deep sand beds, but I was hoping to check out some resources that give additional information. Also, for the process to work, does it have to ONLY be a deep sand bed, or can a deep gravel bed work as well?

If I wouldn't have my Kessils and were on a tigher budget I'd get either two of the Fluval Plant 3.0s, or two of the Finnex Planted+ 24/7, or more likely the economy competitor with slightly less options of the Kessils, two of the Aqua Illumination Prime HD 16 LED Freshwater Aquarium lights for my 75 gallon jungle tank (however those bad boys would still run around $500 with mounting hardware). Something where you can add as much red, or amber to your tank as your plants like. Most say red and blue, but in my experience blue is what algae prefer so I keep it out of my tank for the most part, especially since I prefer not to have to pick green algae out of my Christmas moss that is very close to the surface.

A colorful variety of Amazon swords and a few nice pieces of driftwood combined would be my main choice for what you described. Red Flame, Rubin, Ozelot both green and red, Altlandsberg, and the original Amazon sword come to mind.

@Jungle FanOooh! I know that they have been out for a while, but I really, really want some Kessils. What Kessils are you running?

  6. Hello everyone,

I plan on getting a 100 gallon pond from Tractor Supply for my red eared slider to put outside. Any filter recommendations? I’ve never done an outside pond, so I am totally unsure about what to get. I would normally do a sponge filter, but given that it’s a red eared slider... they get chompy.

  7. @Kphillips6I got the water to clear up by adding 10 Java Ferns and 10 Water Wisteria. Within a few days the tank cleared right up. It just goes to show that what Cory, Dean, and the rest of them say, get your hands in the water, experiment, and learn. It took me a few months to learn that the plants would clear up my water, but think of all the valuable experience I gained from just chipping away at the problem for a month or two.

I think you raise a fair question. I think there’s something to discus being more sensitive to “poor water quality” on account of their slime coat, which is more susceptible to infection than other fish.

But this just begs the question you are already asking: how is water quality “poor” when plants are filtering out nitrates? I think that water “quality” is more complex than the nitrogen cycle. TDS build up over time in ways that _may_ be stressful on discus. Water changes help to cut that out.

But, having said that, maybe check on some of the more extreme ends of the spectrum. Message Jack Wattley Discus, and ask Gabe for his insights. Reach out to Lucas R Brett, and ask about his _no water change_ philosophy and how well his discus do. Contact Ocean Aquarium store, San Fran, and ask if they do Discus in their “no water change” tanks.

Great suggestion about contacting Jack Wattley, Lucas Brett, and Ocean Aquarium. I bet they all have some interesting perspectives.

  9. I'm glad others also responded to the 1-hour challenge. When I heard Cory issue the challenge on the live stream I thought "I'll try it, but there's no way I can find an hour's worth of stuff do to in the fish room." WRONG. Once I got to feeding, cleaning, and moving and trimming plants around, an hour and five minutes transpired. I love the idea of the 1 hour challenge, even if you can't make it to an hour, just trying to results in a greater investment in our aquariums. Great idea.
