  1. Ah, I'm in East Sandwich. Just went to Falmouth Pet Store today to get credit for my poor Neon Tetras. Half of them didn't make it, but it's not their fault or mine. Bought a 5.5 Gallon tank from them for a quarantine/hospital tank. Keep your eyes on Facebook Marketplace for used aquariums, and put the word out too. I got my 20 Gallon long for free, complete with filter, air pump, heater, etc, from a friend. You'd be surprised at how many people (sadly I think) want to get rid of their tanks.
  2. Another Cape Codder! Hello. Just got back in too, after over a decade being gone.
  3. Just wanted to say I'm impressed with your caring attitude. Most people would be "oh it's just a snail". Fingers cross for the little guy
  4. Hello! No, just my little Neon's will be occupying the tank. I do have one photo just of my tank I managed to upload! I still struggle with transferring between my phone and laptop! I will be uploading more when I have a chance
  5. and I'm stressing. I have a very dark blackwater tank. Been cycling for about 5 weeks. Ammonia, Nitrites zero. I have 17 in a 20 gallon, and as soon as I acclimated them, and netted them out, they vanished, except for a couple. Lights are off, room is dark, everything quiet. Already lost one. Half of his little tail fin was gone. They were shipped on Wednesday, pre medicated, and given the go to be sold today. Have to go to work in a couple of hours too. Have quite a few daphnia in the tank which I think they were chasing. I hope they're going to be okay.
  6. You're welcome! Correct! That is how I have my current lid for my tank. Granted, I work there already, so it was easy for me to find it and ask my boss. Saved me some money!
  7. And then you show us two gorgeous, healthy tanks! 😄 You're doing great. My goodness those are lovely.
  8. Hello Marcell! I'm getting back in too. Haven't had a tank since 2005! Advice: keep it simple. Use a sponge filter, ask your local hardware store (if they sell Plexiglas) if they have any scrap bits they want to sell you. Buckets: go to a supermarket that has a bakery. Ask if they want to sell you some of the buckets the frosting came in. Odds are, they'll give them to you. Same with restaurants. They get pickles in 5 gallon containers. Scour Facebook Marketplace for used stuff too. Lights? Aquarium Co-op has some wonderful lights they just put out!. Understock your tank since it is a tall. It has less surface area.
  9. BHAHHAAA! I watched Cory's video yesterday on how to properly siphon a tank. Last night I dreamed about doing it. Only the tank was half the size of my room, with only three fish (and were oddly animated) and I was making a real mess of it. It was so hard to do, and the tank was getting worse.
  10. My current, albeit still empty tank, is a 20 Gallon (90 Liter) long tank. I'm attempting a biotope of the Rio Negro. Granted, it's a poor attempt, but it has driftwood, botanical, plants (including houseplants, like Pothos, Philodendron Micans, Spider plants, etc)and rocks. My dream tank would be a 100 Gallon (380 Liter) Low Iron aquarium, Rio Negro biotope, with accurate wood, plants, botanicals, etc, collected from there. It would have habitat appropriate fish of course! That is the top of my aquarium. I am still learning how to take pictures with my phone, and upload them. It has an Aquarium Co-op light (I love it!) two modified HOB filters, Fluval substrate, and a PH of 6.8, low hardness, blah blah. Very dark right now, I love it.
  11. That tank is stunning. I love the middle one too. I am so jealous right now!!
  12. It looks fine! I'm sorry you didn't have good luck with it.
  13. I would love to buy from them, but the fish would be traveling from Washington State to Massachusetts. I can't justify putting fish through that much stress. Ideally, it would be great to buy/trade fish with another hobbyist.
  14. That is sad. I don't understand why they thought this was a good approach. People will not shop at a store that makes them feel unwanted. You WANT customers to feel good in your store. One thing I've noticed about (some)animal people: they dislike people, and think that working with animals will give them a break, so to speak, from humans, lol. They forget that those animals have people attached to them too. I say this as someone who loves animals and nature too, having spent my life working with my beloved cows, then dogs. I like people too though, most of them.
  15. Gardening, houseplants and aquariums all go together. I'm an avid "fan" of all three of them. This fall, I dumped tons of chopped up leaves, coffee grounds, and kitchen scraps (I work in a kitchen) in my garden. My last plant purchase was a Philodendron Billietiae, on sale for $60.00. Philodendrons can also be grown like Pothos in the aquarium. So can Spider plants!
  16. I'm intrigued. Can you expand on this? To answer OP's question: yes, I have one LFS, about 25 minutes away. They quarantine their fish, which is a plus, the staff SEEMS knowledgeable. It's okay, nothing extraordinary. We had a great LFS that had been in business since 1965. Owner wanted to retire, no buyers for what ever reason, so he sold it. I miss them dreadfully. There is one that is an hour one way that is okay.
  17. I am impressed with everything, including your poster of Alex. Wild movie!
  18. Sounds amazing Nicohorse318! I cannot wait to do it. I still have zero fish, b/c I'm getting my 20 Gallon long cycled for my new fish friends, neon tetras. By summer I will be set up. The only thing I worry about is dragonfly larvae! Love Dragonflies, but they are quite brutal towards fish.
  19. Thank you! These are great links, and you gave me some great advice. Your guppies and shiners look amazing too.
  20. Thank you Cyndi. I need to practice taking pics with my cell phone.
  21. I like both of them, I just don't want to have a population explosion on my hands.
  22. I looked up swim bladder problems and came up with this https://fishcareguide.com/what-is-swimbladder-disease/ I hope this helps! Here is one more specific for Cory Cats https://avidaquarist.com/cory-catfish-swim-bladder/
