  1. Has anyone tried this and if so, how did it go? I'm thinking about putting Neon Tetras (which I haven't obtained yet) outside this summer for a little vacation. I'd use a deep tub, filled with plants and a net on top. I live in a temperate region, but it gets warm in the summer. (Currently cycling a 20 gallon Blackwater for them. It's almost ready, just haven't had time to drive and buy them.)
  2. Welcome!! Very nice to meet you. This is a very helpful and friendly place. Your tank is gorgeous
  3. I cannot remember where I read this, but the author hypothesized that pea puffers are a schooling/shoaling fish. It makes sense. They're so tiny, so safety in numbers boosts their chances of survival. At some point, I'm going to have a species specific tank just for them. They are enchanting!
  4. I would love to try this. I use Coast of Maine Ocean Forest for my houseplants, and they thrive. I just keep thinking it would make a soupy mess.
  5. Pleased to meet you! There are many knowledgeable fishy folks here who can help.
  6. It was a pleasant surprise. I had no idea they did that. My order was packed so well, that the plants I ordered made it safe and sound. No easy feat considering it's 3,000 miles away, and winter
  7. Your ten gallon is one of my favorite tanks I've seen. Something about it makes me smile. Welcome
  8. Yes, I feel the same way! I will be driving at least an hour one way, to find decent fish. I would love to order from Aqua Huna, but I'm too far from Washington State. I feel like fish get too stressed out being shipped, and don't want to put them through that.
  9. Thank you Deb! I need to practice taking pictures with my cell phone. Thank you for the tip about Stratum.
  10. Yeah, plants can be very territorial. Black Walnut trees are known for releasing a chemical called Juglone, which not only prevents plants from growing around it, but the shavings are also dangerous to use for horse bedding. Never use it in your aquarium either. Beautiful wood though
  11. Fish wise? Probably just the neons. Substrate: Fluval Stratum. Botanical items: lotus pods, indian leaves, acorns, maybe oak leaves? Driftwood, and Java Fern and Java Moss, Water Sprite. Is it exactly like the Rio Negro? No, but as long as the fish are safe and content, that's all that matters. I'll run a HOB and of course a heater! Any suggestions, I welcome them.
  12. Thank you! Brown Swiss is my favorite breed of cow btw.
  13. Hello friends. I've been out of the hobby for a few years and miss it. Really surprised at how much it has changed from the late 90's to 2010s! The botanical was the biggest surprise, but I like it. My particular interest is creating a biotope for Neon Tetras. I have a ten gallon I'm cycling with no fish, using Dr. Tim's ammonia. Picking up a used 20 gallon long today. Very much looking forward to meeting all you and getting my fins wet again. Other interests: cows (dairy farm background) Mother Nature, gardening, dogs, drawing, and meeting nice people! IMG_20230214_130123.j
