Heard a story once of someone who drained a tank and stored it. Months later, they filled the tank. Not long after, a goldfish was swimming around in there. Apparently there was an egg in the tank that survived all that time.

Sorry to hear about the cracked tank and the Banggai Cardinals. Bummer. I recently had a fish that wouldn’t eat as well, including live foods. I did lose the fish, unfortunately.
Your fish room is coming along nicely though. Props to you for plumbing tanks. I’m too scared to do it. I’d buy the predrilled because I worry I’d goof it up.

Agreed. It worked for me too, along with his recommendation of a garlic infusion. I see your issue was epistylis though @Chris.

Unfortunately I know that sound.. got the tank quickly drained and down to the curb, but halfway there the bottom fell out of the tank…

yeah, same. I fortunately got some free from my LFS to use for plants but might need to get some more to weigh down some zucchini for my pleco and mystery snail.
I get better harvest rates when i use krill flake but i prefer just to use xtreme bottom wafers because one wafer can last me a week and i dont have to constantly replenish the food supply
That’s cool. My friend ordered MEGA SIZE tetra flakes, on BOGO!! She has so much food, so she shared some and that’s what I’ve been using.

I got a grindal worm culture from @Guppysnailwhen i got shrimp and isopods from her, i just havent mentioned them that much
Me too! My little ember tetras love them, sometimes a worm wiggles out of the fish gills. The betta loves them too. I started feeding flake food to all my worms. It is easy and they love it. I use the pipette to moisten the flakes a little bit.

turns out that falling down stairs with a bust arm can result in a torn ligament
Oh man, you can’t win, can you? So sorry. So I guess water changes are further complicated.. sheesh.. get well soon! On the plus side, you and Polo both have fun leg stories to tell in the future.

Talk to @Guppysnail. She uses a plastic coffee filter? Floats it.On 12/31/2023 at 9:18 AM, TheSwissAquarist said:Happy new year from Gretel 🫠
She has the right idea. I think I will go ahead and implement this strategy. ❤️

Those glass flame barbs are pretty cool.
Very nice the students can observe/help raise the fry. Maybe the teacher can offer extra credit to students who participate in feeding and water changes for the fry.

Hey @knee. Sorry for your fish losses. Hope everything is ok with the family. Great to see you back.

@Chick-In-Of-TheSea how's the Christmas Moss doing? Did it develop into the nice triangles of parallel branches or end up more like mine with good parallels but not consistent. Or did you get the random Java Moss hybrid that like nothing like Christmas tree triangles?
I don’t seem to have it anymore; I guess it melted.

Similar concept to hospital patient with the port in their hand. Staff can draw blood or inject medicine into it without having to further poke/wound the patient.
The fry look just as small as the live food cultures!
I wonder if you could rinse the vinegar eels in a brine shrimp net? Then it would be no acid into the tank.

Pretty much! Like an exotic blood worm 😄
Epic! I love when my tank blesses me with live food. My Bolivian Ram loved it! I found another and gave it to a pudgy tetra. Very well received.

Give me your one song you would like to hear during the holidays. I'll likely end up making a Spotify playlist or something if we get enough for everyone.
Here's mine:
The tempo of @nabokovfan87 song, if it was played at a concert everyone would have their lighters up 🔥.

@Tanked that was EPIC! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! 😍 🤣🎉🍺
As of recent years, I’ve been digging the Frank Sinatra version of Jingle Bells.Just curious, does anyone else feel emotional when they hear this one? —> Home Alone song
Sidenote: husband came up with some new lyrics for Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Originally lyrics: Tiny tots with their eyes all aglow, will find it hard to sleep tonight. Husband’s lyrics: Tiny tots with their hearts all aflutter, will soon be eating bread and peanut butter. 🤣

Gift from brother
Gift from husband
Gift from friend. This is a garden fish. It has a stake and can swim outside in the plants. But I keep it inside.
Souvenir from FL keys. Bought at a booth at a craft fair there. Also I swim them past the betta tank and he chases them. Good stimulation/exercise.
And of course I needed one of these too:
Metal art. I think I got at Ross.
And here’s a clutch. Get it? A clutch! From my husband.
I have a lot of sea turtle art around too.

It takes multiple days for no planaria to work.
cc @Chick-In-Of-TheSea used it and got rid of some hydra as well.
I used No Planaria in my tank for scutariella japonica and it killed the hydra I had. I would often watch the hydra and NEVER saw them catch or try to catch a shrimplet. The hydra were green, so I believe they were eating algae or catching the Soilent green powder I was feeding.

I think they say actually 48 hours but probably better to be on the safe side.
Glad to hear people dose for the full volume of the tank during water changes because I feel like that's just safer than underdosing.
Yes I dose at 24 hr because I don’t want them to suffer if/when it wears off.

You know, that's what I always read, and it's like what does that even mean. I mean if it looks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck.. I just don't see how it locks up ammonia.
It changes the properties of the ammonia, rendering it nontoxic for 24 hours. Like how you take ibuprofen for a headache and when the ibuprofen wears off the headache comes back.
