Jake Ledesma Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Was wondering if I had to get a HOB filter or could I sponge filters only? I planned of stocking the tank with real plants and maybe some driftwood? Let me know what works best for your tank! Any and all recommendations are helpful!
Administrators Cory Posted November 30, 2020 Administrators Posted November 30, 2020 Can definitely do sponge filters only. I've run whole fish rooms of 40 breeders with sponge only.
Fish Folk Posted November 30, 2020 Posted November 30, 2020 Can’t top a Cory recommendation! We use sponge filters on our 55 gal. One thing we did was to run additional air bubbles up from the middle to add more aeration and flow. Our 40 gal breeder developed a sort of “dead spot” with inadequate flow, so don’t be afraid of adding extra air! 1
Paul Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 (edited) If you want to use just a sponge filter I don’t see why not. I run the Ziss filter and a hob on my 40. I get good circulation throughout the tank. Edited December 1, 2020 by Paul
Andy's Fish Den Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 All the tanks in my fishroom are run with sponge filters, and I have a few 40 breeders. I have one in each back corner running.
