JS Fish Posted April 16 Share Posted April 16 (edited) Caught this little large mouth bass with a net in my back yard! Currently about 1 inch long and have him in my 5 gal tank. (BTW, his name is Boomy) Here's a video of him on my youtube channel JS Fish Tanks Any feeding ideas? I tried frozen blood worms but he wasn't interested. JS Fish Posted April 17 Author Share Posted April 17 (edited) I caught some of the bugs. They like to swim close to the water surface and are hiding in the water spangle. The bass dosent seem interested in them. That being said, they are a cool addition to my aquarium and fun to watch! They should be small enough for him to eat, you could also use a different fry but guppy fry is easy to get if you already have guppies. You could also try Miskito larvae. Chris Posted May 4 Share Posted May 4 Consider feeder shrimp too. Whenever I've kept picky carnivores in the past (Lionfish and frogfish) they've responded well to cherry shrimp when small. IMO, they're easier to breed than guppies, and it may be easier to ween the fish from a live shrimp to a frozen shrimp than live fish to pellets. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
JS Fish Posted May 4 Author Share Posted May 4 Thanks for the advise. I definitely cant use cherry shrimp because I've been having problems with mine. Feeder shrimp might work but most are still to big. I wont be able to start hatching BBS for a couple weeks. My only options right now are very small feeder shrimp and feeder guppies. JMC Posted May 4 Share Posted May 4 Have you considered scuds? I know in nature Bass eat them. I’ve kept a scud culture for 6 months. They were reasonably priced and reproduce incredibly fast. I’d start by netting up some leaves in the water and seeing what’s living on or under them. That’s how I started one of my scud cultures. Billipo Posted May 13 Share Posted May 13 I've had some experience with predatory natives. I've kept a small bass, but he was closer to 2 inches in a 20 gallon tank. I would tie a worm to a thread and he would attack it. Very fun to watch. Allows you to keep worms from ending up uneaten in your tank. Tie tight so the worms tears from the thread and you don't just catch the fish.
