HOB Filter Position

Hey Gang,

I'm considering moving my HOB from its current position which is the back left of the 20 gallon tank to the ride side facing the left. The idea was that you would get a better circulation if the water is sent out across the tank rather than to the front of the tank. Any thoughts on this ?

Thank you,
Ryan

There was a topic i believe on here i saw that referenced a youtube video that had the "science" behind the placement. On a 20 the filter on the side should be just fine, im getting ready to setup a 125 that i'm going to attempt a tidal on the left side with sponge filters on the back because i want it tight to the wall!

I have been using a side mounted HOB for a quite a while on the 29.  It provides a recirculating current across the tank.  The current is strong enough to move some of the plants on the far side of the tank, but not strong enough to deter the small fish.  Visually, once you get used to the new position, I think the side mount is less obvious and easier to service.  The HOB is also on the same side as the heater, so there is the added benefit of moving the water past the heater.  This tank isn't covered, so I use either a piece of cut glass or aluminum channel to support the left leg on the ACO light
