Is this a "pest snail"?

Hello,

 

I have been trying to figure out where this snail came from, as the only thing I have added to this tank in the last 6 months or so, is food. Anyway, I don't mind a few snails, but I want to know if this is one that will destroy my plants, as I would probably remove it if so.

i think its a ramshorn snail, which are both plant safe.

It doesn't look like a ramshorn to me. I think I see an operculum. @Vod, can you tell if it has one?

Looks like a Ramshorn snail to me. I love mine. Great algae eaters/clean up crew and they don’t eat plants. I intentionally make more of them to feed to my Pea Puffers.

That’s a bladder snail. I find all snails like to munch on some plants from time to time. Not really sure if any are technically “plant safe.” But they don’t usually do much damage unless you are extremely fond of duckweed I wouldn’t worry about it.

I agree with @Biotope Biologistlooks most like a pond snail.  I would need a better pic to be certain.

Yes it sure does. The snail will not harm plants. A bunch of people on Reddit are thinking Nibbles is a trapdoor snail but idk. Nibbles came in on a plant and has stayed peppercorn sized. The only thing is you have to make sure you don’t gravel vac your little friend. 🙂

 

 

 

Your snail is not a ramshorn because of its rounder shape. 
 

Your snail is not a bladder snail because of its whorl position.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll let them stay for now, as long as I don't get a bunch of them, and get them climbing out of the tank.

Unless you overfeed your fish, snail populations usually stay pretty stable. Overfeed the fish, and the snail population will explode.

My little dude hasn’t reproduced. I suppose he’s a male. He came out to eat a crab cuisine today. He made friends.

@Chick-In-Of-TheSea usually I’m skeptical of reddit ID’s as well but that does look like a juvenile JTS (japanese trapdoor snail). 
 

I suppose time will tell.
